Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I started contracting in 1981. Already had 5 years invested in getting to that point. That's 50 years total in the business. I still enjoy the work. But I hate the pressure. Everybody is always in a hurry. The stress of trying to get jobs done has taken the joy out of just doing the job. People dont seem to care about quality anymore, its just how fast can you do the job. Then when something is not just like they wanted it, they blame you. Just slow down people. If you dont 50 years will pass before you realize it. Time will be your friend if you let it, dont push it, enjoy it while is here.

My views on taxes.
Income tax is not a legal form of taxation. Implemented to support the war. Never repealed. Property tax i can deal with but it shoul be on the land area and location and not what you put on it. Because if you buy something or build something you pay sales tax on that, to tax it again is double taxation. Gas tax is necessary to support the roads. Electric cars should have a fairly based tax as well. Tire tax is double taxation. Or just have a tax on tires instead of gas. License plates fee supports a system of tracking ownership and condition not a tax to support other government activities and should not be taxed but once each time the car is traded. Tarrifs where designed to support the federal government, on trade both in and out of the US, this tax is fair I think if Implemented properly. Sales tax is the only fair tax there is if you omit food, because most people buy food and should not be forced to pay tax on just trying to stay alive. However sales tax on goods is voluntary and fair, you have a choice on whether to pay that tax or not and is income based, the more you can buy the more you pay. Except automobiles, pay the tax once when purchased new and never again no matter how many times its traded. That's double taxation. At least person to person sales should be exempt. Social security should be voluntary its the bigest ponzy scam in the world. Government tries to put a tax on everything including the air around you, this trend is un constitutional, these random taxes are taxation without representation.

Folks dont put too much air in your house. Ive done the electrical in some of the finest homes in our area. Beautiful spacious homes with all there is to offer. What i find when I have the opportunity to visit these homes after they are occupied is, in spite of all these large rooms with valued ceilings, the residents tend to migrate their main living areas to a small corner or room of the house. Humans feel more comfortable in a confined area by our nature. Warm comfortable contained areas are where we naturally migrate to because of protection and control of our space. Great open rooms look good but are not a naturally attractive to living. So save your money. You will live happily in a smaller cozy setting with lots of love.

Going to vent a little bit. These trade school graduates who have been trained to take the LLC test aren't electricians. 5 years minimum working under a journeymen after the school and you may be able to go at it on your own. A lot can't do it then. There's just too much to know. Ive been doing it for over 50 years and I'm still learning. These kids out of school are dangerous and shouldn't be allowed to go out on their own. Oh they can make it work. Look good to someone who doesn't know better.

Just in case, here are some winter storm precautions.

Water is important, in a power outage if you got city water your ok but if you have a pump your out, so. Fill containers for drinking and cooking and then fill your bathtub. With a bucket, about a gallon of water will flush the toilet. Just pour it directly in as quickly as possible. Leave water running slowly at any outside wall locations if you got water. But if your heat is out and your water too go to the lowest water access you have and drain as much of the lines as possible.
Your freezer should hold for about 24 hours if you dont open it. In freezing weather you can put your refrigerator items in a container and burry in the snow. Your freezer items set thoes above the snow.
Good batteries and a flashlight are needed but not good for long term. We have become accustomed to so much light that you will be amazed at how much light a single candle can provide. In boyscouts we would do dark hikes, once you eyes adjust you can see very well with limited light.
Be careful of propane heaters inside. If you must use them, slightly open a couple windows to create a cross draft to bring in fresh air. Close off rooms you dont need.
Cooking out is a lot of fun but in a power outage it is survival. Remember in the cold its harder to get the temp high enough. Use more coals or turn gas up a little higher. Don't cook inside and dont leave unattended coals near your house. Good idea to have some food prepared in advance. Leftovers can save you.
Do not set a generator inside. Even in a open garage it can be dangerous. Turn it off completely and unplug cords before refueling. If you spill fuel, wait for it to dry before restarting.

Be safe and read a good book. This too shall pass.

Been a lot to be grateful for this year. Businesses is good, everyone is healthy, son Shawn has joined the crew. Only regret is all the people we were unable to serve. One of the downfalls of the business, is feast or famon. Everyone have a wonderful day, and look for the good things, In yourself and those around you.
