Thermal expansion!

Have you heard about thermal expansion? You may ask what in the world is that!
Thermal expansion is defined as: The increase in linear dimensions of a solid or in volume of a fluid because of the rise of temperature.

Though the change in volume from heating water is not some great amount, it can create havoc on your closed loop potable water. This causes excessive wear and tear on your faucets, supply hoses, fill valves for toilets and water lines to name a few.

What can you do about it? Check to make sure you have a thermal expansion tank on the COLD side of your water heater (or on the cold line in general). If you have a well, generally you dont need to worry about them, but there are certain instances you do.

If you begin to notice dripping from the relief valve or excessive water pressure coming out of faucets in the morning or after showers. That could be a tell tale sign of expansion tank problems. If your experiencing any of these things. Give us a ring and we’ll do our best to help you out
