HOW TO AVOID UNLICENSED CONTRACTORS:
Now that the dust has settled, or at least the rain has let up a bit, we would like to offer some advice on selecting a roofer to perform work on your home.
Your home is your greatest investment and a true definition of the American dream.
Risking your most prize possession by using the services of unlicensed contractors or contractors that are working outside their classification is just dangerous.
You see, a licensed roofing contractor is qualified by manufacturers for the materials they install and heavily regulated by the state of California in order to protect the homeowners and the homes they have worked so hard to own. Specialized insurances, bonds and licenses are what make a professional roofing contractor stand out head and shoulders above the rest. Ultimately, a professional roofing contractor is not only worried about your investment, but theirs as well.
We see so many community forums where a vulnerable homeowner is desperately seeking the help of a roofer to stop a leaky roof, replace an existing roof system or looking for a new roof for that beautiful custom home. Many of the forums that Temecula Roofing Co. is recommended in, we also see the names of companies and individuals that are not licensed, working out of classification or just an individual, illegally offering his services.
Consequently, a week later we also see that same person, in that same forum, seeking the help of another roofer, now they are even more desperate and out the money wasted buy not hiring a professional roofing contractor originally.
“If you think it is expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.”
Although it is great to be able to reach out to the community and get the referrals of other homeowners in the same situation, it is imperative that you also check the qualifications of the Roofing Contractor prior to calling them, or signing a contract with them.
Here are a few steps to help you find a qualified professional:
1. Hire only state licensed contractors.
2. Check a contractor’s license number, and C-39 classification, online athttp://www.cslb.ca.gov/Resources/GuidesAndPublications/WYSKPamphlet.pdf or by calling 800.321.CSLB (2752). (A B1 does not qualify unless they subcontract to a C39 Roofer)
3. Get 3 references from each bidder and call previous customers, or review their past work in person.
4. Confirm that the Roofing Contractor has workers compensation and liability insurance specific to roofers.
By following these 4 simple steps, your chances of having a positive experience with a roofing contractor will greatly increase.
