One of the most misunderstood parts of summer scorpion control is the home itself.
Arizona bark scorpions are naturally able to climb and navigate vertical surfaces. They move along stucco, block walls, framing transitions, eaves, utility areas, and wall systems. Once extreme heat intensifies, the small differences around a home — shade, moisture, air movement, cooler surfaces — become even more important.
Homes are not airtight.
They contain small gaps, penetrations, expansion joints, and micro-air leaks. Many of these are not obvious from the outside, but they can still influence how insects and scorpions move around the structure.
During June, exterior sealing also becomes more complicated. Stucco, metal, concrete, and other materials expand under prolonged heat. UV exposure increases. Sealants can be harder to apply consistently. Previously sealed homes may show separation, failed bonding, or layers of old sealant that no longer maintain barrier integrity.
