Hi guys and gals Carmen with Tria Plumbing here to take the myth out of the softener vs. conditioner debate. Here's the main difference with out getting over technical. Water softeners remove calcium deposits where water conditioners do not. Here in the Valley we have extremely hard water that can rain havoc on the plumbing and fixtures in your home causing faucets and valves to wear out prematurely by calcium deposits (hard water).
Softeners work great for this problem as there main function is to remove calcium deposits. They are also great for making your dishes spot-free. This particular softener in the pic has a hose-bib attachment for washing your motorcycles or cars for that same spot free shine.
Water conditioners on the other hand work better in states that already have relatively soft water as there main function is to take sediment and odor from the water. Keep in mind neither of these units are designed to provide purified drinking water. In that case you would want a Reverse Osmosis system. If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me directly or leave a comment below!

Hey guys I thought I'd share this since I'm a plumber and see this problem a lot. The pic attached shows two different styles of water shut off valves. The one on the left is the old style gate valve which corrodes and rusts over a long period of time and tends to break when you need to shut the water off in the case of an emergency. The one on the right is a much more reliable 1/4 turn ball valve and will last much longer than the gate valve. If anyone is unsure about how to shut the water off to their home or has any plumbing related questions please feel free to ask!
