We’ve decided that Jacob is the face of White Rock Contracting. He’s still a little camera shy 😂

This morning we worked on videos for our website. Our goal for the next couple weeks is to build our website up with informative videos — we want it to be a place future clients can go if they have questions but aren’t quite ready to talk to someone yet!

If you were looking into talking with a contractor — what is something you would like to see on a website that would help you feel informed and confident before reaching out?

I’ve shared pictures of the build process, I’ve shared a video explaining, now here is the before and after of the Brazil deck that the guys completed!

To recap: Cedartone wood was used throughout, Black metal cable used on the railings, trap doors throughout to give access to the spigot, crawlspace, and propane tank.

Jacob walked us through some of the specifics on this deck build they recently completed in Brazil. The weather made things a little bit difficult, but as always the guys did their best to stay on track while making sure they were safe and doing the job the right way. They even worked in the pouring rain for a little bit 🌧️🥹
This deck is a perfect example of how we work with our clients to design exactly what they want, customizing it in a way that meets their individual needs. For example, our client has an interior fireplace in his living room which is on the other side of the wall but he didn’t want to have to take up space in his yard and get a giant propane tank. Instead, the guys built out a cubby where a small propane tank sits and is hooked up to the fireplace. It’s hidden by a trap door that gives our client easy access to it. Another trap door was added next to this area to act as a crawl space access area.
The treated wood that was used for this project was cedar tone, which is a premium wood. Black metal cable (not shown in the video) was used on the railings, creating a nice sleek look.

** For anyone who is learning along with me — “premium wood” as defined by Derek: “When the wood is being sorted, the boards that are in better shape and look the nicest are sorted in the pile to be treated with a tan chemical mixture (the cedar) making it premium wood. The ones that aren’t in pristine condition go to be treated by a green chemical mixture.”

Jacob is now taking suggestions on what he should use next to hold his tiny mic 🎤

As a contractors wife I joke a lot about projects at home not getting done because he’s so busy helping everyone else get their projects done 😂 I put in a job request for a chicken coop and Derek got it bid (I just have to keep doing his laundry, feeding him, and everything else.), plans drawn up, designed, and completed this weekend! 🐔🐥
As the owner, our house is the place where all the scrap materials go to live until someone takes them to the scrap yard or the dump (nothing has been taken to any of these places yet, but they tell me it will.😅) but because we have our own personal scrap storage, we were able to build this for just $19! Using random metal sheets the roof was completed — yes it might be in 2 different colors but that’s called character. The siding was done using treated wood cedar siding. It was built on a platform base to help keep predators away — and maybe so the bottom can act as a shaded area for another enclosure?? I’m thinking colony-style rabbit home? 🐰
I think my favorite part about this is the 5 nesting boxes. Now our chickens can lay eggs and the dogs won’t be able to eat them before I can collect them! 🥚🍳

Just because it’s the weekend doesn’t mean the work stops! 💪

Isaac spent the last couple days working on this incredible paint project. Our client in Jasonville had all white doors on his new-build pole barn, he wanted the garage doors to match the metal and the man doors to be accent colors.

A couple things had to be done before the painting could start:
1.) the doors were sanded to scuff the metal to help the paint stick.
2.)the power wash rig was taken and used to clean any dust and debris off.

Two brand new products were used on this project: Sherwin Williams Forte in a unique shade of blue and Benjamin Moore Command in the color red. Benjamin Moore Command is designed to be an industrial paint — this means that it dries extremely fast, making it incredibly ideal to use in an industrial or factory setting where the space is painted at night and back to fully functioning the next morning. Four coats of paint were done on the man doors for this project in just 1.5 hours! 😳

This morning was a beautiful morning for soft washing! This client in Center Point schedules a wash for every summer — and we could tell! Annual soft washing on your home helps to keep it in pristine condition. Not only this, but it gets rid of any mold and mildew that grows overtime, significantly reducing any chance of it entering your home through ducts. Plus, it just gives the outside of your home a nice clean feel and look!💧🫧

Some days go super smooth…and other days you work in the pouring rain and your work van breaks down on the side of 70. But, the work still has to get done!

I went and harassed a couple of the guys today while they worked on a deck over in Brazil. They’ll be putting the finishing touches on it soon and then moving on to the next one! This deck has a couple things about it that make it more functional for the owner (a special video about that by our bubbling Jacob is coming soon!). One of my questions when they first started on this build though was “what about that water spigot? Won’t the deck cover it up?” The answer was: “it depends.” This is just one of the ways that we can help you customize your deck to your specific wants and needs! This client asked that an access point be left open so it is still useable. Before the deck is completed, a hatch door will be added to cover the access point so that everything still looks nice and uniform!

Did you know that the interior of your commercial or industrial buildings can be softwashed?

Ryan and Bryce spent the day Friday softwashing the interior of one of the commercial buildings in Linton. With Derek and I’s history with water inside our house, the thought of purposefully spraying water all over the walls and ceilings of a room makes me nervous.

But — here’s why it shouldn’t!!

— When softwashing the interior of an industrial or commercial building the main thing that avoids water damage is the floor drains. Genius, right?! 😂
— Buildings that are candidates for interior softwashing are ones that are made up of concrete, cinder block, or metal walls. The water isn’t going to damage these materials.

So, why have this service done? Great question! Here are just a couple reasons:

—Sanitize the area. The chemicals in conjunction to the high-pressure water kills off mold and mildew!
— Paint prep. Any space that is going to be painted has to be cleaned of any dirt and grime.

Unlike pressure washing, we have “The Steamer” — a heated steamer unit that breaks down dirt, grime, and grease. This is a huge game changer when it comes to those hard to clean areas. It helps us to ensure that we are getting the space as clean and sanitized as possible, not just surface clean!
