No need to irrigate this week! We hope each and every one of you have a safe and happy transition in to the new year!

From the WJPA email for the week of 12/24/18 - 12/30/18:

More than enough rain coming this week! NO IRRIGATION RECOMMENDED.

Remember, St. Augustine grass is a warm-season grass. It goes dormant in the fall. Please turn off your automatic sprinkler controller and operate manually if and when your turf needs water. Generally we receive enough rain during the colder months to adequately supply the water needs of dormant turf grass.

This is a recommendation only. It is intended to reduce waste of our vital water supply and is based on several rain gauges placed throughout The Woodlands and evaporation data provided by Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District. We understand that rainfall events vary across The Woodlands and suggest installing a gauge at your home to accurately measure your rainfall. The decision to irrigate is at the discretion of our residents. However, the Defined Irrigation Schedule is still in effect, and residents who choose to irrigate should do so according to the DIS.

Some Water Saving Tips:
• Pay attention to rainfall. The Woodlands receives about 50 inches per year.
• Subscribe to this email.
• Use cycle and soak to prevent runoff.
• Make sure your soil is not compacted and that water can pe*****te at least six inches.
• Ensure that you have a healthy microbial population in your soil.
• Monitor your outdoor water use.
• Don't just "set and forget" your controller.
• Check here for your 50% rebate on rain barrels, native plants, smart controllers, drip irrigation and rain gauges.

The only good thing about rain is that I get to spend the day on my “honey do” list. At least that’s what the wife says.
