Have you ever wondered what the process of refinishing your cabinets is like?
To achieve a factory like finish onsite, it requires using top of the line equipment. Along with industrial wood coatings that will cure to a smooth feel and look, yet tough enough to withstand every day use, food spills, and chemical household cleaners. This process is tedious, but the results are worth it!
Before bringing anything into your home, we begin by protecting your flooring surfaces with heavy duty spill proof paper.
Cabinets are cleaned with a degreaser to remove cooking fats and oils from hands that constantly touch them.
Cabinet hardware doors and drawers are removed and labeled. If done incorrectly, reassembly becomes a nightmare!
Appliances, like your dishwasher, microwave oven, range, and fridge are removed.
Then, the painstaking masking begins! We construct a spray booth in your garage or an area with enough space. This is done with zip walls and thin plastic to spray your doors, along with an exhaust system to extract fumes. We set up a door and drawer drying area. Build plastic walls around the kitchen to contain the work area. We also mask off the inside and outside of the cabinet boxes.
All areas are scuff sanded to promote adhesion. This is done with specialized sanders that are attached to hepa dust extractors. Dust is your worst enemy when trying to achieve a smooth finish.
Then, one coat of primer is applied. This coat brings to light all the imperfections! All the scratches, dings, and damage. These are repaired with wood filler, bondo, caulking, etc.
Now to sand some more! The primer coat raised the wood grain. Smooth sanding is required to lay the wood fuzz down and smooth out the repairs.
A second coat of primer is applied. This allows us to conduct a secondary inspection and the build up of coatings gives the finish a fuller, nicer finish.
And some more sanding! The last sanding pass gives you the smooth finish that you are after.
Finally, two coats of pigmented Conversion Varnish.
Remove all masking and equipment. Hang all doors and drawers to the correspond areas. Install appliances. Clean up!
