In the time of social media, we often see the beautiful result but not the details of the hard work, failure, learning, and growing that went into it.

As you look at these gorgeous, manicured gardens and homesteaders with multiple acres laid out so perfectly I want you to remember something: they started small.

One raised bed
One 3x5 in ground space
Maybe even just one pot.

And often times, that was the biggest and hardest step they ever took: STARTING.

So I challenge you this year… dare to start small. Grow one tomato plant, plant the green onions in your fridge right outside your kitchen door, fill a pot with strawberries. Growing something for the first time helps you learn so much more than you think it will. It helps grow your confidence without feeling overwhelmed. And more importantly, it strengthens that bravery muscle and gets you one step closer to your ultimate goal.

But here’s the thing: if you’re already planting with pollinators in mind, you’re probably a lot closer to earning one (or a few) of these than you think.

Providing food, water, shelter, and a place to raise young… that’s really what most of these programs are looking for. And a garden built with intention naturally starts to check those boxes.

One of my favorite parts? Making it fun: especially for kids!
Turning your yard into a certified habitat becomes a little mission… something to work toward, celebrate, and show off when that sign goes up.

Because yes: putting these in your yard proudly is part of the joy.
