Foothills Grading and Septic Service recently tackled a challenging erosion issue for a homeowner in pinnacle North Carolina, whose gravel driveway was rapidly washing away during heavy rains, threatening access to the property. Our team began by assessing the site, identifying poor drainage along the roadside ditches as the primary culprit. We expertly regraded the side ditches to create gentle, uniform slopes that promote proper water flow away from the driveway, preventing future pooling and runoff damage.
Next, we turned our attention to the driveway itself, regrading the entire road surface to restore a smooth, crowned profile that sheds water efficiently into the newly shaped ditches. Using precision equipment, we compacted the base material for stability and added gravel where needed to ensure a durable, long-lasting finish.
To complete the project and protect our work, we broadcast high-quality grass seed across the disturbed areas, followed by the installation of biodegradable erosion control blankets. These blankets were securely staked over the regraded ditches and shoulders, holding soil in place while allowing seedlings to establish strong root systems. This final step not only safeguards against immediate washouts but also promotes natural vegetation growth for ongoing erosion resistance.
The customer now enjoys a stable, well-draining driveway that stands up to the elements, with the site fully restored and greening up beautifully.

🌱 New Lawn Transformation at Foothills Grading and Septic Service! 🌱
We’re thrilled to share our latest project: establishing a pristine new lawn for a beautiful new construction home! 🏡 Our team worked hard to transform the landscape by:
✅ Harley raking to clear rocks, weeds, and roots, creating a smooth, perfect seed bed.
✅ Spreading 300 lbs of premium contractors blend grass seed.
✅ Applying 350 lbs of starter fertilizer to give the lawn a healthy kickstart.
✅ Blowing 40 bales of straw to protect the seed bed.
✅ Installing 6 rolls of erosion control matting on steep and wash-prone areas to ensure stability.

On this sweltering Friday, our crew bravely battled the heat to finish a crossing/construction entrance for Tobaccoville locals. The crossing was mandatory due to an impending logging operation that necessitated a wide entrance for logging trucks and trailers. We advised the client to install two 20ft double wall culverts to prevent hang-ups. BD Kiser Trucking delivered three quad-axel loads of fill dirt and 20 tons of railroad ballast. Upon completing the pipe covering and grading, we applied a finishing touch with railroad ballast stone to enhance traction. The project was wrapped up within half a day, and the clients are now prepared for the logging crew.

Today's endeavor may have been modest in scope, but it held great significance for a family in Yadkinville, NC, who are eager to set up their pool and enjoy the warmer weather. We repurposed an old garden bed with railroad ties, removing the ties and stacking them neatly for the customer's future use. By excavating the topsoil, we exposed the underlying red NC clay, creating a solid base for the pool. As we conducted our final grade checks and captured a few photos, the clouds grew increasingly menacing. However, we remained focused, completing the project and securing our equipment before the storm began. The sun is shining, and our equipment is operating at full capacity, delivering projects efficiently! We restored this driveway for a local rental property in Pafftown, which had been damaged by the trash truck over time. To achieve this, we brought in 20 tons of premium “spec grade ABC stone” crusher run, resulting in a road rehabilitation that meets the highest standards.
