There are so many people in the country waiting for a kidney. In PA the wait is 2 to 6 years without a living donor, for many, the wait is even longer, and the prognosis even more grim. People who need a kidney do not always have 2 years, much less 6 to 10 years to wait for one.
In Pennsylvania, more than 6,000 people are on the kidney transplant waiting list. Of the 23,644 kidney transplants performed in the U.S. in 2020, 5,234 were made possible by living organ donors.
Pair donating allows for 2 or more people to receive a kidney and give them time to make memories with their families. A donated kidney from a living donor offers more time and better chance of not rejecting. It can give them 20-25 years of memories they would not have otherwise.
Not sharing this post makes the chances of anyone anywhere of getting a kidney donation nil.
