Diamonds are forever πŸ’Ž (sometimes they just need a bit of polishing)

Three 12 carat (lite) diamond windows about 2' x 3.5" from a mid century ranch here in Toledo got some well deserved love plus a paint upgrade finished in the color "crucible".

First time using my steam box and a big help from the Speedheater Cobra to get the stubborn stuff πŸ’¨πŸ”₯

Peep the last slide for the before (minus the glazing that had already been taken out)

Did you know that old houses have been owned and maintained by LGBTQ+ people since forever?! 🀯 It's so crucial to preserve the legacy of the people that lived in those very homes especially during times when it wasn't safe to be openly le***an or gay or transgender or non binary or any identity other than straight. So we celebrate the beautiful people we have today and have a great time while we're at it

A couple weeks ago, I had a blast riding in Toledo's Pride parade πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ with the best passenger princess ( πŸ‘‘ Justin Camuso-Stall )

We got rained on, passed out Toledo library buttons, hit a couple potholes, and had an absolute blast seeing everyone.

Bonus picture from me roller blading in last year's pride parade

Special shout out to the photographers that captured the joy of us riding around in my electric trike

Epoxy or Dutchman?
βœ… Prep

There are a lot of ways to repair types of rot on windows, and what approach you take depends on things like price, extent and location of the rot, and to some degree it's personal choice. Sometimes it's a a mix of approaches.

Here's how this repair was done:

βœ… Remove rot and sand back to strong wood
βœ… Create small holes that act as anchors for the bonding agent and epoxy
βœ… Use a small piece of wood as reinforcement for the tenon joint
βœ… Apply Advanced Repair Technology epoxy
βœ… Let cure for several days
βœ… Sand/shape, cut weatherstripping groove, and finally:
βœ… Oil primer to act as a protective layer

You're trying to stay cool inside but it's the surface of the sun outside. The condensation you're seeing is on the outside, kind of like the opposite of condensation on the inside during winter.

Winter isn't the only time to figure out where the gaps are, and ironically for me, the gaps that caused this were around an AC unit that was basically bolted to the house by a previous owner that I had plans to remove anyway.

Solution: I can add weatherstripping, storm windows, or both to your windows because it doesn't just help in the winter

My workshop was in desperate need of windows that it has long since lost. What better things to use than salvage wood and salvaged sashes. True 2x4s and 2x6s that were reclaimed were used in creating a full jamb and sill to fit the upper and lower sashes in a single hung configuration for now

Incredibly thankful for Anna and Inspired Lumber Workshop for cultivating a space of machinery and camaraderie with other woodworkers who helped along the way

Head over to my Instagram to see the video Anna helped me make in their parking lot πŸ˜…

(I doubled back and spent way too much time on this but thankfully it wasn't on a main street)

Last year, I took on the biggest job I'd ever done. Over 8 openings (more than 16 individual sashes) were restored along with many of their jambs and sills stripped and refinished. You can see a wide variety of configurations from single lite to diamond lite, and a fun arch shaped attic window! A little love was all this 1911 house needed to show off for its 115th birthday this year πŸ₯³

Some more exciting jobs coming up that I promise I'll be more prompt in sharing 🫣. Thanks for being along for the ride πŸ’œπŸ πŸͺŸ
