Build My Future event at the Onalaska Omni Center hosted by the La Crosse Builders Association. 1600 high school students will wander through the 80 booths of trade businesses and do hands on activities, in hopes they choose a career in the trades.

Our booth features an equipment matching game discussing the different jobs each piece does and the opportunity to do an aggregate material test themselves.

POSITION SUMMARY

Mission for Aggregate Processing Foreman- Night Shift

The mission for this role is to safely operate equipment in a mine environment and assist crew members in the operation of our aggregate processing plant(s). This individual needs to be self-motivated, detail oriented, analytical, and committed to continuous improvement. This position is responsible for ensuring smooth, efficient, environmentally compliant, and safe day-to-day operation of the processing plant. Ensure that employees are performing their jobs and maintaining equipment safely and in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job Responsibilities
This position will include keeping the jobsite running safely and efficiently. Responsible for management of aggregate production crews. Fosters a culture that analyzes and mitigates risks for our crews. Must have the ability to exercise discretion and good judgment in supervising subordinates. These tasks include but are not limited to delegating responsibilities and tasks, training, performance evaluations, counseling, and disciplining.
Setup and Material Management
• Ensure crusher is level at all times
• Maintain site cleanliness, and perform general labor activities, including but not limited to shoveling in and around the belts and crusher
• Checks stockpile to ensure product quality
• Prep material with a pulverizer or hammer as needed
Start-Up in the Morning
• Perform daily checks on conveyors, screen deck and crusher box
• Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance work on machinery (mechanical experience preferred)
• Report crusher issues and worn-down parts to the maintenance supervisor in a timely manner
Feeding and Operating the Crusher
• Monitor the plant to ensure the plant is running safely and production is consistent
• Beware of unusual noise that could indicate potential plant issues
• Identify appropriate material to produce quality aggregate material and set aside uncrushables
• Monitor silica dust emissions and use dust suppression if needed
• Perform tracked conveyor moves as needed
• Adjust crusher settings to optimize performance and gradation
• Assist with collecting material samples for laboratory testing
• Maintain strong communications with ground labor to ensure efficient and safe workflow
Shutting down
• Complete all necessary daily paperwork. May include but not limited to, daily logs, vehicle inspection logs, hours of service, etc.
• Remove build up from under or around crushers and beltlines
Overall safety
• Shut down equipment as required in the event of an emergency, blockages or end of shift
• Conduct daily pre-shift safety checks (area inspection, e-stops)
• Adhere to and follow all safety rules and regulations of MSHA/OSHA/DOT
• Ensure nobody enters safety perimeter while operating the crushing plant
Other Requirements
• Other duties and projects as assigned
• Performing physical activities that require considerable walking, standing, bending, carrying, and lifting up to 50 lbs, etc.
• Wearing all proper PPE including but not limited to, hard hat, HiVis safety vest, steeled toed boots, harness and safety lines
• Performs daily servicing, maintenance, and repairs on aggregate processing plant(s)
• Daily reporting of all employee’s payroll hours, pre and post inspections of all equipment

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
• Minimum of 5 years of aggregate processing experience, with crushers and other aggregate equipment
• Previous MSHA training documentation
• Have mechanical knowledge and experience with general equipment maintenance
• Flexible to work extended hours, and weekends when required
• Capable of working independently when needed
• Able to promote a positive and safe workplace in a physically demanding and fast paced environment
• Comfortable working outdoors, in extreme weather conditions, and in a noisy and dusty environment
• Welding/torch cutting experience desired
• Knowledge of sand and aggregate classification to help produce spec material through the crushing operation
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Use of personal protection equipment is required
• Must be willing to travel to other work sites
• Must have a clean driving record and valid driver's license, CDL preferred
• Must successfully pass pre-employment testing

Job description
Job Title: Pipelayer Laborer
Division: Water & Sewer Division

JOB SUMMARY

The individual is responsible for repairing and installing water lines, sewer lines, and water meters. Provide service to broken water and sewer lines. Install and repair manholes. Maintains area around pumps stations and pipelines. Tap main water line and provide water service to individual meters. Load and unloads materials, tools, and equipment onto and from trucks by hand. Cuts brush and clears the ground around pipe. Maintains surface pipe using pick, steel brush, and spray gun. Assists in carrying and laying of feeder pipes. Cleans precipitates such as catch basin and grit chamber using shovel, rake, and hand pump. Lubricate equipment, such as pumps and valves. Opens and closes gates and valves according to gates readings or warning lights on equipment and other duties assigned. Reports to supervisor on areas worked as directed. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Individuals will be performing other assigned duties by supervisor/department head when needed.

EDUCATION/EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Must have oral and written communication skills in English to at least the 9th grade level (to include correct spelling).
• Five (5) years’ experience in construction preferred, or the ability to learn the job through on-the-job training.
• Knowledge of proper sequence of activities required to perform the job.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
• The applicant will be the subject of a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration.
• Applicants must take and pass a drug, physical, and pre-placement screening.
