Merry Christmas from northern Michigan! 🎄
Towed my camper 600+ miles to the Detroit KOA Campground for a massive 3D mapping project that's been in the works. While everyone else is relaxing today, I'm setting up one of my biggest captures yet.
The scope: 72.1 acres of the Detroit KOA property including their lakefront beach area, 5,823 high-resolution images, estimated flight time 1 hour 37 minutes. This is a complete 3D reconstruction using my Matrice 4T with RTK precision - we're talking survey-grade accuracy for their site planning and development.
Had to coordinate ATC approval with Detroit Willow Run Airport since we're operating in Class D airspace. Filed my LAANC request, got clearance, and spent Christmas Day programming the flight mission. Tomorrow morning we capture, then back to Jersey to process the deliverables.
This isn't just flying a drone - it's packing up operation, driving 10+ hours with a camper in tow, coordinating airspace authorization, configuring RTK base stations, and executing a precision mapping mission that will deliver orthomosaics, point clouds, and 3D models this client can actually use for their business decisions.
73 acres doesn't map itself. Time to get to work. 🚁
