It is always a very welcome site to see well cared for trees that have lasted generations. Whenever I go somewhere new, I love to see the trees of the area. These trees in Northern England have lined the road and have been pruned well at Chatworth House. The right investment and care leads to some stunning vistas. Truly trees fit for royalty.

A few years ago a frustrated homeowner contacted me about a tree that was almost dead. I went and assessed the situation, and the problem was a wood-boring insect. He told me he had his chainsaw out and was about ready to pull the cord, when he decided to reach out and have the tree diagnosed instead.

He decided to do a treatment plan with the tree instead, and all of the dead limbs were removed as an a part of the integrated pest management strategy. I returned to the property again this week, and found a that a tree that was on the brink of death was now thriving and was going to need some routine pruning to shape it for the future. Though the evidence of the past borers are still there, the tree is now putting its energy into new growth and development.

The tree is at least 15 years old, and between the cost of removal, buying a new tree, and waiting for decades for a new one to grow, the homeowner is glad he reached out before cutting this tree down.

Today, I received this digital certificate from the International Society of Arboriculture. To keep it valid, I must obtain at least 30 CEUs every 3 years.

I do this to give the best service possible in the specialized areas of Plant Health Care. The definition given by the Arbor Day Foundation sums up the services Sagers Arbor Care offers.

"Plant Health Care is a holistic approach to plant care that focuses on the health and growth of plants. The practice of Plant Health Care was developed by the International Society of Arboriculture Research Trust, Tree Care Industry Association, and the USDA Forest Service."

In 2015 I took the ISA Certified Arborist exam. As a part of the agreement the International Society of Arboriculture has with more than 50,000 tree care professionals worldwide who have passed their qualifications, a person has to obtain 30 or more Continuing Education Units (CEU's) over the course of 3 years in order to renew their certification.

This past week I renewed my ISA Certified Arborist Credential for 3 more years. Over the past 9 years I have completed 121 additional educational hours. This process is so professionals can learn more about the tree care industry and arboricultural methods to better care for trees. Sagers Arbor Care is constantly working with others in the tree industry to give the most up-to-date and best practices when working with trees. In addition, I agreed to abide by a code of ethics, so that people know I will give the most solid advice possible during consultations.

I read this article about the health check on "The General Sherman." The good news is that the largest tree by mass in the world is healthy and will be able to fight off the bark beetle.

I have seen this to be true with most ornamental trees in home landscapes. If the tree is properly cared for and healthy, it usually can resist attack from pests. There are exceptions, but a healthy tree is one that will cost less to maintain over its lifespan.

I have been thinking about the many different facets of tree care as I have been at work over the past several months. There are so many different types of trees in our area with many being introduced from other areas. The pests that attack various trees often have specific preferences for certain trees.

Pests come in a variety of types, whether they are insects, bacteria, or a fungal disease. Many problems that occur in other areas of the country are not as common in Utah, and the inverse is also true. Native and desired introduced species of trees all have certain drawbacks, though some trees are superior in our climate and soil types. I have several examples of trees and issues that I have seen this Spring season. Most of the problems do have treatment options, though proper identification of the tree and the cause of the issue are necessary before options can be presented. The following trees are identified and problems diagnosed.

It is always good to see cities do this with their urban canopy. Trees cool temperatures, release moisture into the air, and provide numerous benefits to populated areas. Both Tooele and Grantsville are Tree City USA participants. I am a member of the Tooele City Board, which is a prerequisite organization to become achieve Tree City USA status through the Arbor Day Foundation.

Utah's capital city has planted thousands of more trees over the past decade, and city leaders say there are many reasons why.

Sagers Arbor Care LLC. is pleased to remind about other landscaping services. Kristen Sagers has joined the team to beautify lawns and yards. She has learned how to fertilize lawns and trim shrubs professionally.
Lawn fertilizer costs are still high, but since we can buy in bulk through commercial vendors, she can provide service and supplies at a reasonable rate. The key to green lawns is proper nutrients, and she is applying a Spring fertilizer blend that reduces w**d germination. The lawns are much healthier when the right steps are followed.
