🚧 Monday Minute: What Happens After the Bore?

Drilling the pilot bore is only part of the process! Once the path is established, a reamer can be pulled back through to enlarge the opening and make room for the conduit or product being installed.

Think of it as giving everything a little more elbow room underground. 😎

🔧 Monday Minute: Meet the Drill Head!

It may be small compared to the equipment behind it, but this little tool has a BIG job underground! The drill head helps our crew steer the bore while tracking location, depth, and pitch to keep things headed in the right direction.

A lot of precision goes into what happens beneath your feet! 👷‍♂️

🚜 Monday Minute!

One of the questions we hear all the time is, "How far can you actually bore underground?"

The answer might surprise you!

Depending on the project, soil conditions, equipment, and the utility being installed, a single directional bore can stretch hundreds—or even thousands—of feet before another entry or exit pit is needed.

That's one of the many reasons Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is such an effective solution. It allows us to install underground utilities while minimizing disruption to roads, driveways, landscaping, and other surface features.

Every project is unique, but our goal is always the same: safe, efficient installations that keep communities connected.

Did you know there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach to installing underground utilities?

At Hidewood Fiber, we use both trenching and Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)—and each has its place.

🔸 Trenching is often the best choice for open areas where a direct installation is the most efficient solution.

🔸 Directional Drilling (Boring) allows us to install utilities beneath roads, driveways, sidewalks, and landscaped areas with minimal surface disruption.

Every project is different, and our team evaluates the terrain, existing utilities, and project requirements to determine the best installation method.

No matter the approach, our goal is always the same: a safe, quality installation that keeps communities connected.
