Ever notice how once you start paying attention to roofs… you can’t stop noticing them? 😂

Driving through Northern Michigan this weekend, I caught myself slowing down looking at shingles, flashing, and siding on almost every street.

Freeze thaw cycles, heavy snow loads, spring storms… they leave their mark around here.

Honestly, sometimes it’s hard not to knock just in case a homeowner needs help before a small issue turns into a major leak.

If your roof has been on your “I should probably get that checked eventually” list, now’s a good time before summer storms really kick in.

Out canvassing today and thought I’d show a few of the things we look for when trying to spot signs of an aging roof 👀🏠

Some of the biggest things we watch for:
✔️ Granule loss / “sparkling”
✔️ Older 3 tab shingles
✔️ Black streaking or algae buildup
✔️ Curling or lifted shingles
✔️ Wind wear and aging

A lot of homeowners don’t realize their roof may have damage until there’s already a leak inside. Northern Michigan weather can be especially rough on roofs over time with snow, wind, UV exposure, and freeze thaw cycles ❄️🌧️

If we notice signs of possible aging or storm damage while we’re out in the neighborhoods, we can help homeowners get scheduled for a free roof evaluation☺️

Something we noticed during the rain yesterday 👀🌧️

The houses that already had small issues were the ones where the water actually behaved differently

You could see it if you were looking 👇

💧 Water running sideways instead of straight down
💧 Dripping in spots it normally would not
💧 Hitting one section harder than the rest

Most people are not watching for that kind of thing, so it goes completely unnoticed

But once you see it, you start noticing it everywhere 👀

We had a little helper with us today while we were out canvassing

Bristol is 10 months old and already getting some early field experience in 😄

She did not say much, but she definitely helped with morale

Days like today are a good reminder that we are not just working on houses, we are working around real families and real homes

If you saw us out and about today, that was our smallest team member tagging along
