A fence build we did earlier this year, for our good friend .bloom.design. The last three pictures, show what she inherited when she bought her place, and this year she decided it was go time. The yard falls naturally, a couple different ways, and there are 3 existing trees, I didn’t want to remove, or harm. So rather than disrupting anything, we made the fence ā€œmoveā€ with the landscape. For areas where the elevation changed, I scribed the bottom board, and cut it to follow the ground, and the same goes for the top ā€œdrink railā€, where we had to raise the elevation to keep it a true privacy fence. We love puzzles.

A new barn floor, lean-to, and apron, for a good friend, just south of town, on Indian Lake! Concrete work in September/October always feels like a gamble, but I’m so excited we got to make this one happen for , to help make their new shop complete! We love what we do, but it’s even better when we can provide our acts of service, and craft to a friend, that is also building an extraordinary life, and climbing the ladder in her field. And as usual, having brothers like .clary.02 & that will turn on the flood lights, and work the late night with me, to get it done, is such a privilege in itself. Full speed ahead.

A full demo, and re-build of the existing deck, and then adding a massive main level section to this house on Tibbets lake, just south of Traverse City. We went with Trex ā€œtoasted sandā€, for the primary decking, and solid edge ā€œspiced rumā€, for all the picture framing and breaker boards, and then we wrapped everything with black Trex Enhance railing, and black fascia boards. This is one of those projects I get super excited for as a builder. As usual, .photography was the only person I could trust to fully capture this thing. 2025 has been flying by, and I’m excited to share the other things we’ve been up to, as well as the projects we have on the books for the future!

The custom steel gate we installed for our good friends the Griffins, out at ā€œGriff Acres.ā€ I decided to go a little over kill with the concrete piers, because if there’s one things I’ve adopted from working for this family, it’s that we might as well do it big. 18ā€x18ā€ columns tied to 3’x3’ footings at 1’ thick, with 3/8ā€ rebar reinforcement. The steel square posts on either side at attached the footings as well. The gate opens and shuts with a hydraulic cylinder that’s operated on a 24v solar powered system, and is controlled by the keypad, or remote. Another fun puzzle, and opportunity given to us by this wonderful family. The gate was purchased through , a phenomenal ā€œmom and popā€ company out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. They do all of their own fabrication in house, and offered phenomenal support when we needed it. Happy to add this to the portfolio.

Maple Street Carriage House is complete, and we got .photography in there to do his thing. This 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit presented some challenges with it being a rather small footprint, we had minimal room, and options to run the plumbing/H-VAC, but I’m excited with how this project turned out. With three covered porches, modern amenities, and the living quarters having its own separate 1 stall garage, this space will serve as a short term rental for the downtown area! Once again, an amazing learning opportunity, and we’re excited to pursue more projects like this in the near future!

Teamed up with to take on the rough framing scope of this new A-frame cabin just north of Suttons Bay. For a build with a rather small footprint, it certainly didn’t lack in complexity. Creative, and different projects like these are what keep us coming back for more. I can’t stress enough how grateful I am that I didn’t have to figure this one out on my own. Having , and his dad ā€œPapa Jackā€, was not only the difference, it was also a privilege. It’s easy to get stuck in your ways the longer you do something, but one thing I tell myself every day is that I’m still learning. Being around these gentlemen even for a couple weeks helped expand my knowledge vastly, and I’m excited for the projects we have lined up together.

All the carpentry work this year has been amazing, but don’t forget it’s concrete season, and we’re full speed ahead with flatwork! This 35 yard driveway gives this client a more defined parking area, as well as better water flow, and management with the slope, and added trench drain. Plenty of elevation change, and the unique shape of this slab made it a fun one to piece together for sure. Teamed up again with the incredibly talented & , and showed up to help us pour the second half, because he’s just a stand up guy šŸ˜Ž. Excited for the future gentlemen!

Betsie Bay Marina in Frankfort is done, and looking great. We rebuilt 4 of the main docks, with 25 attached docks to give this place a whole new look. All new framing with fresh treated lumber, held up by new supports, and hardware at each pair/set of pilings. In order to guarantee that everything was built at the same elevation, we had to shoot in the height on every piling from a barge using a laser level we had set up on shore. Definitely not something we do normally, and what a learning experience it was. A massive thank you is due to and who both showed up to take part in the madness whenever I needed help. .photography as usual is the only person I trusted to capture this, so all photo credit goes to him. Blessed to have been a part of this, and curious to see what projects these clients have for us in the future! 😬

.photography came through to help us show the latest update to East Bay Harbor, in Acme. Close to 340 feet of new boardwalk for ā€œSouth Dockā€, is another massive improvement for this property, and one we were privileged to be a part of. All new framing, and decking, with fresh treated lumber should keep this business functioning, and looking fresh for plenty more years to come. With these big production, and large square footage jobs, you need to find ways to hang on to the ā€œcraftsmanā€ side of things to still make it unique. This comes down to the simple things like keeping fresh saw blades for clean cuts, running string lines for uniform screw patterns, screw depth to protect the longevity of the deck boards, a lot of scribing to stay snug against the seawall, and getting creative to stay ā€œsquareā€ with existing obstacles that can’t be moved. It was another challenge, but with some help from , and a few of the harbor guys, we had it wrapped up in time for boats to get into their slips. Until the next one!

A sneak peek of a marina rebuild we’re currently on out in Frankfort. All the new framing is done for the 4 piers we’re rebuilding, as well as over 50% of the decking. As soon as electrical, and plumbing is completed, we’ll be back to finish up, and boats will be moving into their slips for the summer! šŸ˜Žā˜€ļøšŸŒŠ
