Michael Hanrahan, FAIA, Principal, recently joined host Ken Magos on NJ PBS’s Drive By History for the episode “The American Revolution: Following the Flour.”

The episode visits Taylor’s Mill in Readington Township, a historic grist mill that supplied flour to Continental Army and New Jersey Militia troops during the American Revolution.

Michael discussed the vision for the site, developed in support of a Preservation Plan prepared by Hunter Research. A light steel “ghost” structure would stabilize the remaining stone walls while suggesting the mill’s original form. Conceived as an open-air destination, the structure would provide a place for visitors, including hikers and cyclists, to rest while interpretive signage shares the site’s local history and national significance.

Julie Kroon and Earl Heim led a tour of the Old Barracks Museum for the Clarke Caton Hintz team, sharing the history of this National Historic Landmark and its role in the Battles of Trenton during the Revolutionary War. Located just across the street from our office, the Old Barracks continues to tell the story of the Ten Crucial Days and its pivotal role in the American Revolution.

Clarke Caton Hintz has completed several projects at The Old Barracks. The tour highlighted the museum's recent HVAC system upgrades, which improve environmental conditions for visitors while supporting the long-term preservation of the historic structure and its collections.

CCH is thrilled to introduce 2026 Summer Intern, Eve Eklund!

Eve Eklund is a rising fifth year architecture student at NJIT. She was thrilled to have the opportunity to intern this summer at CCH and contribute to various projects. Some highlights include modeling the Stevens Institute of Technology’s Williams Library for an upcoming renovation, surveying and documenting historic buildings for the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Master Plan and modeling a new addition for the Secaucus Recreation Center. She also had the pleasure of working on multiple site photoshoots for finished projects. Through her time this summer, she brought her advanced Revit skills and eye for detail to CCH, while growing in AutoCAD and construction documentation. Eve also added many new skills to her repertoire including surveying, documentation, processes of historical preservation and much more.

Originally constructed in 1905, the Harry S. Vreeland House is the last remaining structure of the former homestead. CCH partnered with Passaic County to complete a conditions assessment and develop renovation plans that transformed the underutilized property into a vibrant new Archaeology Center through adaptive reuse. The new space serves as a gateway to Passaic County’s rich archaeological heritage, offering visitors the opportunity to explore artifacts, discoveries, and stories that connect us to the people and cultures that shaped Passaic County. Through exhibits, educational programming, and hands-on learning experiences, the Archaeology Center will foster curiosity, promote stewardship of the past, and preserve these important resources for future generations.

On Saturday, June 27, one of Camden's most treasured historic landmarks entered an exciting new chapter. The Benjamin Cooper Tavern has been restored and transformed into the American Revolution Museum of Southern New Jersey, creating a new destination where visitors can explore the region's vital contributions to American independence. Built in 1734 and later occupied by British forces during the Revolutionary War, this long-overlooked landmark will finally tell the powerful story of South Jersey's role in the fight for independence. The future of this historic building once appeared uncertain, in 2012, a purposely set fire destroyed the roof, becoming the catalyst for the The Camden County Historical Society to launch a fundraising campaign to save and restore the site. With support from state, federal, and local funding partners, the project has now opened its first-floor galleries just in time for America's 250th anniversary. This remarkable transformation not only preserves Camden's oldest surviving building, but also creates a vibrant, inclusive destination for education, community engagement, and heritage tourism. CCH is proud to have partnered with the Camden County Historical Society on this important preservation effort and looks forward to continuing work on the remaining phases of restoration, including the rehabilitation of the upper floors and replacement of the roof.

We're excited to share new photos of the historic East Trenton Library, a project that reflects Clarke Caton Hintz's commitment to preserving New Jersey's architectural and cultural heritage.

Originally constructed in 1796, the East Trenton Library has served the community in many roles throughout its history before becoming a branch of the Trenton Public Library in 1933. Clarke Caton Hintz was honored to complete the Historic Preservation Plan for the building and site, while also authoring the successful nomination that led to its listing on both the National Register of Historic Places and the New Jersey Register of Historic Places.

Projects like this celebrate the stories embedded in our historic buildings while ensuring they continue to serve future generations. We're proud to have played a role in preserving this important Trenton landmark and are excited to share a closer look at its enduring character.

We’re growing! Clarke Caton Hintz is excited to announce two new full-time colleagues to our team!

Jack Rizza, Project Designer, is a recent graduate of New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he earned his Bachelor of Architecture. He has been interning with us for the past two years and is now joining the team full-time. During his time at CCH, Jack has contributed to a diverse range of projects, including historic preservation, college campus buildings, parking decks, and his continued work on the multifamily development at the historic Roebling Complex.

Juliana Ross, Project Designer, is a graduate of Kean University, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design. Her technical skills include AutoCAD, SketchUp, Enscape, and Adobe Creative Suite, allowing her to bring creative ideas to life through thoughtful design and visualization. Outside the office, Juliana is actively involved in the design community. She is a member of ASID and IIDA and currently serves as the ASID Student Representative for New Jersey, where she connects students with design professionals and promotes networking and educational opportunities within the design community.

We look forward to the fresh perspectives and capabilities they bring as we work together.
