Today we removed an unused chimney that had become a source of leaks.

Since the chimney was no longer in use, it made more sense and cost less to remove it below the roofline and roof over the opening rather than continue repairing it.

We left the remaining chimney intact in the attic, so the homeowner can either leave it as-is or remove it in the future and reclaim about 5 square feet of space throughout the house.

A backyard transformation complete!

We replaced the old timber retaining walls with a new engineered block wall system, created a beautiful upper paver patio, and tied it all together with wide steps connecting the two outdoor living spaces.

One of the biggest goals of this project wasn’t just making it look great. It was solving a long-standing drainage problem. We installed a drain between the upper and lower patios to intercept runoff from the hillside and carry it away, helping eliminate the flooding issues the homeowners had been dealing with.

Now the project is complete, and the homeowners have a beautiful, functional outdoor space they can enjoy for years to come. That’s what it’s all about.

This homeowner received a quote of nearly $50,000 to replace and relocate a retaining wall along the driveway.

After looking at the site, we weren’t convinced a retaining wall was needed at all.

The wall sat so close to the driveway that people were constantly opening vehicle doors into it. Instead of rebuilding the wall farther back, we removed it and cut the hillside back to create the clearance that was needed.

We used the same approach two doors down , so we were comfortable that the slope would work without a wall.

The parking spot is now wider, easier to use, and the homeowner avoided a major expense. The area will be seeded and strawed, and another landscaper will take over the long term maintenance.

Sometimes the best projects come from asking whether the original solution is actually necessary.

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost two years since our last post. We’ve been incredibly busy serving customers and keeping projects moving, so social media hasn’t gotten much attention lately.

That said, we really liked how this simple, practical solution came out and wanted to share it. This fence was installed to help keep people safe from a 5 to 6 foot drop. It may not be the most elaborate project we’ve completed, but sometimes the best improvements are the ones that make a property safer and more functional.

We’re still hard at work and appreciate everyone who continues to trust Lewis Lawn Care & Masonry with their projects.
