Some history on house painting:
About the earliest historians can find evidence for house painting is in the 1200's in Europe.
In America, In the days before automobiles, the house painter would show up to your home in a horse-drawn wagon, and he would have big buckets of white paint, and a box of colorants. He would mix the color for you right on the job site. All paint in the old days was linseed oil, and pigments. There were several other ingredients added, but Linseed oil was the main ingredient.
The paint roller was invented in 1950. Before that, no matter how big your barn or house was, it had to be painted with brushes only.
The first paint company was Sherwinn-Williams, started in 1866 and soon after that the second paint company Benjamin-Moore came into existence in 1883, and their rivalry continues to this very day.
