A few years ago we lost an alarming amount of trees in the Sierra due to drought and beetle kill. What many people don’t know is that the droughts are the catalyst. They leave the trees weak and vulnerable to a myriad of different advantageous parasites. Bark beetles are a secondary pest that takes advantage of the trees being stressed. This summer, we may see another high mortality rate due to our below average winter. Probably one of the more dangerous tree removals you can make. Once that tree snaps, there’s no way of controlling the fall with a hinge. Angle cuts are made to get the tree incrementally lower, but cause a great risk to the sawyer from falling branches and the potential for the tree coming down on you. We have a great team with tons of experience paired with the right equipment to handle these situations.

Here’s a couple of videos of our crew removing this beast of a tree in Floriston. The homeowner called me earlier this year to go out and assess the tree. I gave it the death sentence due to a massive cavity in the tree with an active ant nest in it. You can see some of the cavity in one of the videos. A large section of this tree fell off some time ago, exposing the wood, which eventually succumbed to rot. If left to stand, this tree would have been a major threat to any life or property in the area. This would have been an ideal job for a crane, but the low tunnels leading up to the neighborhood made it impossible to get a large enough crane in there. To make matters more challenging, this tree was located in a fence in back yard with narrow access. Needless to say, our crew took on the difficult task of removing this behemoth and are absolutely crushing it. We have the best crew I’ve ever been around and I’m super proud of these guys and what they can accomplish.
