Perfect example of what happens when the hose isn’t disconnected. Water was off inside but the hose never drained. They’re lucky we were able to remove the chunk of ice and the faucet survived, but this is likely the first of many we’ll see this weekend. In most cases the Ice seen here makes it easier for the freeze to jump to the portion of pipe inside, especially with the sub-zero winds we are expecting.

Just a friendly reminder to take extra precautions as the temperture drops this weekend. Even houses that dont regularly experience frozen pipe issues are vulnerable when the temperture drops this low. Any hoses should have been disconnected months ago, the hose prevents the faucet from draining and leads to freezing. For people with kitchen sinks on an outside wall, might be a good idea to leave those cabinets open to allow the room's heat in. And dont turn your thermostats down if your in the habbit of doing so, you want hot water consistently replenishing the heat pipes throughout your home as most are on outside walls. Stay safe and keep warm.
