How to paint a home portrait 101 🎨 ⬇️

1. Draw your outline.
2. Paint your big sections (body of house, roof)
3. Paint your first details (bricks, stones, beams, garage, etc).
4. Add shadows (under roof, porch, garage).
5. Paint and add shadows to windows/doors.
6. Paint your landscaping and driveway.
7. Add the house name and your signature.

All done! It takes me about 3-7 hours to paint a home portrait. And I love every moment 🫶🏻

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you incredible mamas 🌷

A mother’s sacrifice is truly like no other. Everyday you’re called to lay down your wants and desires and choose the good of another person. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but also the most sanctifying and beautiful. I began to understand God’s love for us on a whole different level when I became a mom.

I’m saying extra prayers today for those who Mother’s Day is hard for — my single moms, those struggling with infertility, moms who have lost their children, and those who have lost their moms. You are seen and loved.

Happy Mother’s Day, mamas. Now go get yourself a coffee!

My fav four books I read to my child as an artist ⬇️

1. I Love You the Purplest | by Barbara M. Joosse | illustrated by Mary Whyte

I seriously LOVE the watercolor illustrations in this story. They are beyond gorgeous. It also has a beautiful message of how mama’s don’t love any child more than another — they just love them differently 💗

2. The Owl and the Pussycat | by Edward Lear | illustrated by Jan Brett

The story is cute, but Jan Brett’s illustrations take center stage. It takes her an hour to illustrate ONE square inch (!!). I could look at her illustrations everyday and find something new each time.

3. Mouse Paint | written & illustrated by Ellen Stoll Walsh

This book is simple, sweet, and teaches basic color theory for kiddos. Love it. It was also a favorite of mine growing up.

4. How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night? | by Jane Yolen | illustrated by Mark Teague

I’m truly just a sucker for Teague’s illustrations. They’re simultaneously whimsical and way too accurate at capturing a temper tantrum. Not to mention, this is a book series that teaches awesome lessons.

Hey friends, I’m so glad you’re here — let me introduce myself! My name is Payton and I’m the owner of Payton Brewer Design. Here’s a quick get-to-know-me:

🌷 I’m a Catholic wife to my amazing husband, Cody
🌷 I’m a mother to our beautiful son and new baby girl (who is due any week now!)
🌷 I’m an Air Force spouse
🌷 We have 2 cats (Maple and Arthur)

My passion for painting home portraits emerged when we moved into our first house on base. I knew that, even though that house would only be a small part of our family’s journey, I wanted to remember it forever.

Et, voilá! Payton Brewer Design was born. My hope is at the end of Cody’s career, we’ll have a wall covered with home portraits of every house that our family lived, grew, and loved in.

I’m grateful and honored you’re here. And I absolutely can’t wait to work with you 🫶🏻
