I’ve lost count of how many systems I’ve looked at this year that were struggling, freezing up, overheating, running high pressures, or flat-out shutting down because basic maintenance had been put off for too long.

Sometimes the AC problem is simpler than you expect…

We went out for an AC service call in Tucson after the homeowner couldn’t get their mini-split to come on.

The thermostat was calling. The system wasn’t responding. So instead of immediately assuming there was a failed board, compressor, or another expensive problem, we started at the beginning and traced the power.

The breaker feeding the system had been turned OFF.

Once we found it, we restored power and went through the system to make sure everything was operating correctly before leaving.

That’s why a proper HVAC diagnostic matters. Not every AC that won’t turn on needs a major repair, and we’re not going to sell someone a part they don’t need.

Your AC can still be cooling while something like THIS is happening

We were on a rooftop near Tanque Verde & Sabino Canyon checking an AC system that hadn’t completely stopped working. Once we pulled the filters, though, we found the real problem.

Those filters were absolutely loaded with Tucson dust and debris. The system was basically trying to breathe through a blanket.

And that’s where a relatively simple maintenance issue can start getting expensive.

Restricted airflow can lead to longer run times, weak airflow, higher electric bills, frozen coils, and additional stress on the blower and compressor. Leave it long enough and a dirty filter can contribute to a legitimate no-cooling AC repair.

Luckily, this one was caught before it got to that point. We replaced the filters, checked the equipment and made sure the system was operating properly.

If you’re around Tanque Verde, Sabino Canyon, Wrightstown, Pantano, Udall Park or Northeast Tucson and your AC has been running longer or just doesn’t seem to cool like it used to, it may be worth having it checked.
