Are you in the "Good Hands" of Allstate??? Be aware, the only thing those "Good Hands" are doing is digging in your pockets demanding higher and higher premiums...Then, when a natural disaster does strike, those same "Good Hands" slap you right across the jaws with dirty paws.
You get left with nowhere to turn but to your savings account, or to the bank for a loan. And what if neither of those options exist to you? What are you going to do then? This morning I was on the phone for almost five hours with two different insurance companies, two different attorneys and with my bank.

I was attempting to collect money from the insurance companies for costs incurred during the installation of a couple roofs that we had recently finished. The desk adjusters both tried to mitigate their company's losses by denying about every line item that was included with my final invoices., so I

It took a while, but because of the numerous photographs we'd used to document every phase of the jobs and our adherence to building code, they had to collectively pay us about 12k. I was a little aggravated but pleased with the outcome.

The other calls however, got me super pi**ed and totally uncentered. I ended up losing my temper and talked like an as***le and thus got nothing accomplished because of my anger.

I talked to my girlfriend afterwards and ranted for a minute, before she told me how much she loved me and had me do some breathing exercises with her. It actually made me much calmer and I was able to communicate more effectively and lo and behold actually got some things achieved.

Lesson learned...getting angry and losing my cool got me nowhere. It was a complete waste of time and energy. Just keep cool

If you are thinking about getting a new homeowners policy or switching insurance companies, be sure to have someone read the ENTIRE policy before signing it who knows the verbiage.

Be sure to always have an RCV, or full replacement cost policy. The minuscule difference in premium costs are not worth the loss of coverage with an ACV, or actual cash value policy.

Understand any exclusions that are written into the policy before you sign the paperwork and carefully examine the implications of the exclusions.

Know the truth about the insurance industry! They are in business to make money, not to protect their policyholders. Do not feed into the propagandistic marketing and advertisements.

Protect yourself by using the framework that is set forth by the insurance companies themselves. Have an attorney who specializes in insurance and real estate go over the policy with you before signing a contract with an insurance company.

If you are not an insurance expert, then hire one to make sure you are getting the protection that you are paying for and don't hesitate to make a claim after a storm. Making claims because of "Acts of God"will not make your premiums go up or ever be a legitimate reason to have your coverage terminated.
