It has been the most difficult spring to get work done this year!!! Wind, Rain, Cold are all issues to proper liquid w**d control applications. What does freeze damage look like on Trees & Shrubs? Browning of the leaves, branch die back where the branch just snaps, leaf drop are all symptoms of winter freeze damage. You may have to trim out the dead this spring and wait to see if the plant recovers. Remember to water during dry spells during the winter and early spring months. Root fertilization this spring on trees and late spring on shrubs is recommended to help boost the root zone health. Call for a free evaluation of your trees and an estimate for fertilization.

What is the difference in these yards? WATERING PROPERLY!!!! We are now experiencing in Tulsa the Hottest and Driest month in years! The rains were excessive earlier in the year, but now the heat is excessive with no rain! To keep a beautiful green lawn, as illustrated in the picture below, you must water daily! On Bermuda grass you will need 1 to 2 inches of water each week during dry periods. If your bermuda is already yellow or turning brown, it can be revived with proper watering and then we recommend fertilizing it after it starts to green up. Zoysia needs deep watering, 3 times a week. Fescue needs to be watered twice a day to keep it alive and growing. Since fescue is a cool season grass, this type of heat is very harmful to it. Under the best conditions you will lose 25% of your fescue during the summer months. This year could be more! The good news is that during the fall, we can overseed the fescue areas and restore the turf!! More on overseeding in the future....

We have had several calls about shrubs looking bad after the recent frigid temperatures. Freeze damage is very possible with -13 degrees!!! If you have a shrub or tree that looks stressed or damaged, I would wait another month or so before making a decision on replacement. Many times the plant will recover or only portions of the plant are harmed. I definitely recommend fertilizing the plants this year to help preserve the root system.
