Sometimes you have to look back to really appreciate how far the Lord has brought you.
Looking down and seeing a few big, nice trucks and all this equipment is humbling because I remember when I started with basically nothing.
When I started, I couldn’t afford to pay anybody to help me cut trees and clean them up. I didn’t get into tree work to make a living; I really started it to give one of my brothers some work. I had a successful hair salon, and out of the abundance of that, I volunteered with a ministry for several years. While serving, I learned how to fell trees and helped families who were hurting after storms. Eventually, people started asking me to cut trees for them.
I had no idea what to charge.
I didn’t know anything about all the different insurance I would need..
I didn’t know how to pay employees or how many hours to schedule them. Some wanted to work a lot, while others wanted to work very little but expected a lot of pay, despite having little skill or experience. I definitely didn’t know how I would ever get approved for a loan to buy the kind of equipment I was dreaming about.
Back then, I figured I would always just be climbing trees, dropping trees and doing whatever little jobs I could do. The equipment we have today seemed completely out of reach.
Now I can look down and see trucks and equipment I never thought I would own, a crew of guys working beside me, and a business that has grown beyond what I could have imagined.
None of it happened overnight. There have been long days, mistakes, hard lessons, risks, setbacks and a whole lot of work. But through all of it, the Lord has blessed this business more than I deserve.
We’ve tried to build it by doing right by people, being honest, working hard, treating people fairly and giving God the glory for every opportunity He has given us.
I’m thankful for every customer who has trusted us with their property and their trees. I’m thankful for every person who has recommended us, shared our name or called us back. And I’m especially thankful for my guys who show up, work long days and help make all of this possible.
Equipment is nice, but looking at it reminds me more of the journey than the stuff.
God has been good to us.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of it. We’re just going to keep working, keep learning, keep trying to do things the right way and giving God the glory for wherever He takes us next.
