Jobsite protection is key to any successful home build. A spare sheet of osb or foam board works great to protect tubs/showers from damage and costs next to nothing. These corner protectors are great to keep drywall or cased openings damage free. Many subcontractors will be in and out of the house with equipment, materials, and wearing tool belts that will easily damage the corners of these openings if not protected. Ram Board or some other type of flooring protection material keeps our floors damage free from tools, ladders, etc. And lastly, curlex or hay will protect our exterior from red dirt stains caused by rain splashback. Jobsite protection doesn’t have to be expensive or difficult, it just has to be done. We do it because we care. Protecting our homeowner’s investment is at the forefront of everything we do.

Look familiar? Our Brownsboro Custom project is our Parade 2024 home but with a revised elevation to be 100% siding. Painted SW Snowbound and paired with black creates a very sharp and clean look😎

If your home is getting siding where penetrations will be made through the weather resistive barrier (WRB), for mechanical, electrical, or plumbing (MEP) lines, the siding should always be installed after those penetrations are made, so the penetrations through the WRB can be flashed for water and air tightness.

Most builders make the mistake of having their framers install siding before these MEP rough-ins are completed which leaves no way to make those penetrations water and air tight. It’s easier on them for scheduling purposes and easier on the framers because they can complete the siding when they finish the framing and don’t have to make a return trip after rough-ins are completed.

However, doing the siding after rough-ins does come with one potential risk. After the MEP lines are installed, they are in danger of being hit with nails when the framers return to install the siding. A simple solution to this problem is shown here, where we have marked all of our lines that are hidden on the other side of the WRB so the framers know exactly where they are and can use caution when nailing siding in these areas. This isn’t pretty or complicated, and it will soon be covered up by siding, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important.

Make sure your builder is covering all the details of your investment🎯

I love to walk in a home and see the walls filled with scripture from my homeowners! Building houses is about more than just lumber and drywall. I pray every house I build is filled with the love of Jesus. Thank you Lord for allowing me the privilege to do what I do every day.
