Gutters serve two primary functions:
Preventing water from pooling around the foundation of a home. When water pools around a foundation, it can seep into the soil and cause the foundation to shift or crack. This can lead to serious and costly damage. Gutters help to redirect water away from the foundation and direct it to a safe location, such as a downspout or storm drain.
Directing water away from the walls of a structure. When water flows over siding or even masonry, it can be absorbed or find ingress and cause leaking. Gutters keep the water off painted surfaces and masonry walls to preserve longevity and protect your investment.
In addition to these two primary functions, gutters can also help to:
Improve the drainage around a home, which can help to prevent flooding.
Protect landscaping from damage caused by water runoff.
Extend the lifespan of fascia, trim and even interior walls as well as exterior surfaces such as decks and porches by preventing water from seeping in and causing damage.
