It’s all in the details! 👏
⠀
⠀
Our clients had a vision for a hidden door that would blend seamlessly into the surrounding millwork, and our incredible trade partners brought that vision to life.
⠀
⠀
With 40–50 man-hours invested in this one door alone, every detail was thoughtfully designed, adjusted, and executed to ensure a flawless fit.
⠀
⠀
The result? A beautifully concealed door, thrilled homeowners, and another example of the exceptional craftsmanship that goes into our custom homes.
⠀
⠀
We’re fortunate to work alongside talented trade partners who take just as much pride in the finished product as we do. It’s this level of dedication that makes all the difference!

John is our nuts-and-bolts guy, so he tends to look at a home a little differently.

His advice? Spend your money where it will matter 10, 15, even 20 years from now.

It’s easy to get caught up in the fancy, shiny things during a build—but some of the best investments aren’t always the most exciting ones. Think about the things you’ll use every single day, the things that are difficult or expensive to change later, and the choices that will make your home function better for years to come.

Sometimes the smartest upgrade isn’t the one you notice on move-in day. It’s the one you’re still thankful you chose 10 years later.

Build for the way you’ll actually live—not just for what looks good today.

Meet the husband-and-wife team behind McKinney Homes. 🤍

John is the nuts and bolts—the builder, project manager, schedule keeper, and the guy on the ground making sure every detail comes together.

Lindsay leads the design side, working closely with our clients to make selections that feel cohesive, intentional, and personal. We joke that her job is to stay one step ahead of John—making decisions before construction needs them so the project can keep moving on schedule and within budget.

But what we’re most proud of is how we work together for our clients.

Building a custom home comes with hundreds of decisions, and our job is to make sure you never feel like you’re navigating them alone. We listen to what matters to you—your priorities, your style, your budget—and advocate for you throughout the entire process.

We believe building a home should be exciting. There will always be decisions to make and problems to solve, but we work hard to keep the process organized, collaborative, and, yes, actually fun.

Because at the end of the day, we aren’t building our home.

We’re building yours.

Welcome to McKinney Homes. We’re glad you’re here.

High-end doesn’t always mean a certain brand or price tag.

What makes a home feel truly luxurious often comes down to the details—the right scale, thoughtful proportions, quality materials, and how each element works within the overall design.

A fixture doesn’t have to have a designer name attached to it to feel high-end. When the size, finish, placement, and proportions are right, it can completely elevate a space.

Good design is less about the label and more about making the right selections for the home.

One of our favorite design trends of 2026? Defined spaces are back. ✨

We’re seeing homeowners move away from the idea that every space has to flow together and instead create rooms with a purpose—and a personality of their own.

Mahjong rooms, cozy keeping rooms, formal dining rooms, dedicated living spaces… each room gets to feel intentional, layered, and a little different from the next.

We love seeing homes become a collection of spaces designed around how people actually live. 🤍

The McKinney Method | Building From Out of Town

Building a custom home doesn’t mean you have to live nearby while it’s being built.

We work with clients who live in other cities and states, and we’ve created a process that keeps you connected and involved no matter where you are. We strategically plan your trips to town around important selections, meetings, and walkthroughs so we can make the most of your time here. In between visits, we stay connected through video calls, job-site updates, and plenty of photos along the way.

You’ll always have access to your construction schedule, so you know what’s happening now, what’s coming next, and where we are in the process.

Whether you’re down the road or several states away, our goal is to make building your home feel organized, personal, and seamless from start to finish.

🍂 THE McKINNEY METHOD | Why Fall Is the Perfect Time to Start

If building a custom home is on your radar, fall is a great time to start the conversation—especially if your goal is to be home by Christmas next year. 🎄🏡

One thing many people don’t realize is how much happens before construction ever begins.

A truly custom floor plan generally takes about 3–4 months to design and finalize. That means if we begin the initial conversations this fall, spend the next few months thoughtfully designing your home, and break ground around the beginning of the year, you’re setting yourself up for the possibility of celebrating Christmas 2027 in your new home. ❤️

Building custom isn’t just about the construction timeline. The planning, designing, budgeting and decision-making that happen before we ever break ground are a huge part of creating a home that truly works for your family.

So if you’re thinking, “We’d love to be in a new home by next Christmas,” the time to start planning isn’t next spring.

It’s now.

That’s part of The McKinney Method—starting early, planning well, and making the building process feel intentional from the very beginning.

The McKinney Method | It starts with the right people.

We believe great builders are defined by great partners. A luxury home is never built by one person—it takes a team of skilled tradespeople who care about the details just as much as we do.

That’s why we’re intentional about who we work with. We choose trusted, local trade partners who have been thoroughly vetted and who consistently meet the standards we expect for our homes.

Many of those relationships have been built over years, and that matters. Strong partnerships create consistency. Consistency creates quality. And ultimately, our homeowners benefit from every one of those relationships.

Because at the end of the day, we can only build a great home when we have great people helping us build it.
