Greg plays an important role in the production process, helping ensure every piece meets the standards our team takes pride in. One of the things he enjoys most about working at Unalam is the family atmosphere. It’s that sense of teamwork and support that makes coming to work each day rewarding. We’re proud to have Greg as part of the Unalam team!

Our in-house Engineering & Design team provides PE-stamped shop drawings, structural calculations, and technical expertise for glulam, decking, and connection details, helping projects move forward with confidence.

Back in 1906, we built the very first Unadilla silo marking the start of a product line that would go on to support farmers for decades. From that first structure all the way through the 1980s, our silos became a trusted part of agricultural operations across the region. That means the very first Unadilla silo would be turning 120 years old this year!

This assembled glulam bowstring truss measured an impressive 78′-10″ end to end with an overall height of 9′-6″. It was shipped fully assembled to make installation at the jobsite faster and more efficient. Projects like this highlight the range of our manufacturing and fabrication capabilities—and the kind of precision and planning that goes into every build.

Wildflower Farms in Gardiner, NY features our glulam throughout the property, helping bring a warm and natural feel to the space. Our material can be seen in the restaurant, lounge, shop, and event areas, complementing the resort’s connection to the surrounding landscape.

With a mission centered around reconnecting people with the natural world, glulam was a fitting choice for the project. In addition to its beauty and strength, glulam is a sustainable building material, and the project’s location just 100 miles from our manufacturing facility helped minimize transportation impact as well.

You can’t help but notice the “octo-tree” right away. Down at the base, it almost feels random, eight steel plates all set at different angles, with each glulam column heading off in its own direction. There’s no symmetry to it, but that’s what makes it interesting! As you look up, everything starts to come together, lining up in a way that feels intentional. It’s one of those designs that looks a little chaotic at first, but ends up making perfect sense!

Our overhead hoist system does a lot of the heavy lifting, literally, when it comes to moving beams around the plant. It makes handling pieces of that size possible, but it’s not just push-a-button and go.

There’s still a real level of care involved, especially when it comes to flipping the beams. It takes a steady hand, good coordination, and attention to every movement to make sure everything stays controlled and the beams come through without a mark on them!

We’ve been coming across some interesting pieces of history lately. A few items turned up that have been around for a while, including an old ruler and a keychain that have probably seen their fair share of use over the years. The keychain dates back to 1981, made to celebrate 75 years since the first Unadilla silo.

It’s always fun finding these little reminders of the past, you never know what might turn up next.
