Mosquito Fogging is DEVASTATING to your habitat. 🐛 🦋 🐝
Mosquito Buckets are a cheap, easy alternative.
The active ingredient is Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (BTI), which is a natural-born soil bacterium. This prevents mosquito larvae from maturing but doesn't affect other insects or wildlife.
1. Add water to a bucket. Find a list of places where you might be able to get free buckets at the bottom of this text.
2. Add small amount of hay or straw (some people report success using dry grass clippings as well). Leave enough water surface for mosquitos to land.
3. Add about 1/4 of a mosquito dunk. Each one covers up to 100 sq ft of water surface area, so for a bucket you just need part of one. You can find dunks at most hardware stores or online.
4. Add a sturdy stick (or cover with wire) so that critters that fall in (frogs and such) can get back out.
5. Place it in the sun to ferment for a few days, and the hay/straw will create a brew that attracts the mosquitos in your immediate area.
6. If you have kids or pets, put the bucket up and out of reach. (to make sure it's not a drowning hazard)
7. Switch out your bucket setup every 30 days.
8. If you have a larger property, add multiple buckets - best away from your living spaces.
