I’ve got muddy boots but sit behind a keyboard,
I dig trenches by day and troubleshoot low voltage electrical systems by trade.
I mow fields, move dirt, chase drainage, and somehow still find time to run a small farm and be a family man.

I’m pricing skid steers before breakfast,
checking chickens for eggs by lunch,
and wondering if I can turn the next job into another piece of equipment by dinner.

I work a full-time job, run a business,
and apparently decided that wasn’t enough,
so I added a garden, chickens, bees, and a small farm to the equation.

My wife says I have too many projects.
I say I just don’t own enough equipment yet.

My boots are dirty, my truck probably needs fuel,
my phone has three estimates I forgot to send,
and there’s a good chance I’m currently calculating whether buying a skid steer is cheaper than renting one for the 47th time.

Who am I?

Answer: Josh, owner of Muddy Boots Services, LLC, where the business plan is apparently “Why hire someone when I can buy a machine and learn another trade?” 😂

Project Update

Another project wrapped up and another customer with a parking lot that’s ready to handle heavyweight traffic.

This site had developed significant washouts and uneven areas over time. We reworked the grade, compacted the surface in lifts, and installed fresh aggregate to restore a smooth, durable parking area with improved drainage.

Projects like this aren’t flashy, but they’re the kind of work that protects your investment and keeps your property looking professional and functioning the way it should.

The Missouri heat has been relentless this week. Heat advisories, 90° plus days, and enough sunshine to bake the mud right off our boots.

But work doesn’t stop just because it’s hot.

This week, our crew wrapped up 9 projects and met with homeowners and businesses for 12 more estimates. We’re thankful for every single customer who trusts Muddy Boots Services with their property. That trust is something we never take for granted.

A little rain can make all the difference.

We spent some time this week getting a couple food plots established before Mother Nature opened the skies. For this project, we used Domain Outdoors Bombshell and Incognito to create an early season bow hunting setup designed around both attraction and concealment.

Incognito was planted to help create a screened travel corridor, giving the hunter a concealed approach to the stand while also helping establish a thick barrier between the nearby county road, hinge-cut bedding area, and the food source.

Bombshell was planted as the primary kill plot, providing a high attraction food source where deer can feel comfortable stepping out during daylight hours.

Every property is different, and our goal is always to help landowners get the most out of their ground by combining habitat improvement, strategic plot placement, and quality seed.

Now we wait on sunshine and growing weather. In a few weeks, we’ll be back for spraying, maintenance, and progress photos.

We’re excited to watch this one develop and hopefully play a small part in putting a mature buck within bow range this fall.

Project Update – New Haven Soccer Field

It’s starting to look like a soccer field.

After months of planning, coordination, and a whole lot of dirt moving, this project is finally entering the home stretch.

A big shoutout to Second Nature Excavation & Hardscapes for taking on the final phase of grading and helping bring the vision to life. Their crew has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on the field, ditches, and surrounding areas, and the transformation has been impressive to watch.

This video highlights some of the progress made so far, including aerial views of the field, grading operations, drainage improvements, and the surrounding areas that have all been part of this project.

Muddy Boots Services is on standby and ready for the final phase. Once finish grading is complete, we’ll move in to prepare the seedbed, apply fertilizer, establish the turf, and push this project across the finish line for the New Haven community.

It’s exciting to see everything coming together and watch this field take shape. We appreciate everyone involved who has helped move the project forward and we’re looking forward to the next phase.

3 years ago…

I had this crazy idea to start a business.

Found a skid steer at an auction in Kansas and bought it sight unseen. My wife and I jumped in our old diesel truck and headed west to pick it up.

What could go wrong?

About a mile from the farmer’s house, we got stuck.

Not exactly where you want to be stranded when you’re hundreds of miles from home in a truck that’s held together by equal parts hope, prayers, and stubbornness.

After a few choice words, a helpful farmer, and a combine pulling us out, we got the machine loaded and started the trip home.

We thought we were in the clear.

Then came one of those Kansas thunderstorms that makes you question every life decision you’ve ever made. The kind where you can’t see 10 feet in front of the truck, even with the headlights on.

Somehow, we made it home.

At the time, I was aggravated. Tired. Stressed. Wondering why I thought any of this was a good idea.

Today?

I’d give just about anything to relive that trip one more time.

Funny how the moments that feel like setbacks end up becoming the stories you laugh about years later.

I realized something, though..

These are the good old days. Cherish it.

I’m grateful we lived them.

Started with a vision… built with hard work.

April marks our official 3 years of Muddy Boots Services.

We’ve learned a lot along the way…
Mostly that nothing goes as planned, weather doesn’t care about your schedule, and “quick jobs” don’t exist.

But through it all, we’ve built something we’re proud of.

We truly appreciate every customer, every referral, and every opportunity that’s helped us get here.

We’re just getting started. 👊
