Davis’ Div. at Dallas Historical Marker, refurbished and relocated.
This marker records the movements of Brig. Gen. J.C. Davis’ (2nd) Division, 14th Army Corps (USA) as they reached Dallas on May 26, 1864 during the Atlanta Campaign.
After leaving Resaca (May 16), the troops marched to Rome by a route west of the Oostanaula River. From Rome (May 24), they moved by Peek’s Spring at Aragon, then to Van Wert, and followed the road east by Bishop’s Bridge (Pumpkin Vine Creek) into Dallas.
Once they entered town the division marched east to the New Hope Church Road (GA 92) and established an entrenched line on the left of McPherson’s Army of the Tennessee.
Proud to help preserve and keep this history visible for the community.
New location: Dallas City Cemetery entrance next to Dallas Memory Gardens - 444 Confederate Avenue, Dallas, GA 30132
