Access doesn’t happen by accident. 💙

Jessica Hutchins, our Senior Program Manager, joined the panel “Beyond Silence: Real Stories from the Hospital Room” at the 5th Annual Health Equity Summit hosted by University of Vermont Health in Burlington.

Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind panelists shared their experiences navigating healthcare and community systems: what’s gotten in the way, what’s helped them feel supported, and what healthcare professionals can do to build trust and create truly accessible care.

Watch the full panel here: https://youtu.be/i6tKmjwCMVM?si=y3-1c648FAFoQIGU

Accessibility note: The interpreter or the person signing isn’t always visible on screen. We recommend turning on captions to follow the full panel.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Northeastern American Sign Language & Interpreting Education Program was awarded a U.S. Department of Education Rehabilitation Services Administration grant for $2.25 million to prepare interpreters to work with individuals who are Deaf and DeafBlind in situations with legal implications.

The five-year project officially launched on October 1, 2026.

Legal interpreter education has traditionally focused on the courtroom. This project is about what surrounds the courtroom: the legal-adjacent situations interpreters encounter far more often, where people’s rights, benefits, and independence are on the line.

Want to feel more confident with healthcare interpreting? Check this out.

Vancro is sponsoring "Do Nothing or Do No Harm?" on October 17th from 10a -2p Eastern, a healthcare interpreting workshop with Jasmine Marin.

We'll dive into the ethics of healthcare interpreting, using the Demand Control Schema as our lens, looking at the specialization this work demands, the laws that shape it, and how the Deaf community actually experiences our healthcare system.

This workshop is approved for 0.4 Professional Studies RID CEUs. This live workshop will not be recorded, so make sure you save the date!

Register for the workshop at: https://vancro.thinkific.com/products/live_events/do-nothing-or-do-no-harm. If you've already registered, you do not need to register again. We'll see you there!

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month! 💼

A time to honor the contributions of workers with disabilities and recommit to building workplaces where everyone belongs.

At Vancro, we see every day that access opens doors. When communication is accessible and inclusion is built in from the start, Deaf, DeafBlind, and disabled professionals can bring their full skills, insight, and leadership to the table, and entire teams grow stronger because of it.

We're proud to champion accessible and inclusive workplaces this month and all year long.

As Deaf Awareness Month comes to a close, here's what our commitment means in practice: preparing before every assignment, listening when the community tells us what works and what doesn't, and holding ourselves to a high standard long after this month ends.

We remain committed to supporting, uplifting, and advocating for the Deaf community, not just this month, but every day. 💙

As Deaf Awareness Month comes to a close, we're reflecting on what it means: celebrating Deaf culture, honoring ASL, and centering Deaf and DeafBlind voices. 💙

Communication access should never be an afterthought, in classrooms, hospitals, workplaces, or communities.

September may be ending, but our commitment isn't. Let's keep showing up for the Deaf community every month, not just this one. 👉
