I couldn’t be more proud of the Hone team for executing this very remote, off grid and mostly pre fabricated CLT cabin. Our build team and design team worked tirelessly to create a project that could be moved on a tractor trailer that does not look like a modular or spruced up mobile, but also wasn’t super complicated to put together on site.

The word “prefabricated” has been thrown around a lot over the last decade and can mean anything from pre-framed wall panels, ie barely pre fabricated, to a completely finished module that gets dropped on a foundation and is done.

This project had two pre-fabricated modules, including all interior and exterior finishes that were craned onto a pier foundation and stitched together on site. Our crew then spent about a month on site putting together the over arching roof structure and tying all of the details together.

A big thanks to our clients for trusting us with this kind of a project! There is a bit of risk for everyone. And a big thanks to our crew for being willing to travel away from their families for a while.

When we first walked into this house it was clear why it needed a remodel, the amazing view of the Bitterroot river was cut off because the front windows were too low! We were also excited to update the finishes, make a beautiful kitchen and deal with the roof which was not properly insulated and suffered from ice damming. While we were at it we replaced the structurally unsound deck with a new larger deck of porcelain tile.

This is what primary bedroom dreams are made of! Views of the rattlesnake wilderness and the north hills, warm wood and whimsical plants, and oh yea, a nice tub for the end of the day. We have also sprinkled in little gems from all our favorite local woodworkers .a.kingdesign .one.designs and Lastly, this house has the standard energy efficient assembly, 9.5” thick double stud walls, triple Pane European style windows, air tight to 1ACH50 and whole house ventilation to keep the indoor air fresh, clean and comfortable, even during fire season.

This project, nestled up in Missoula’s Rattlsnake valley, had three phases. The first phase was to do a quick remodel on the existing house (not pictured here) so our clients had someplace to live. Phase 2 was to divide the lot, which was huge by city standards, and build a new house. The third phase was to build the sauna and install a in the back yard. We think it turned out pretty darn nice. 📸
