It's been a busy summer but we are so happy seeing this new home take shape in Ripton, Vermont. One of our clients main priorities was to eliminate as much plastic from the building process as possible. This involved seeking out new materials and methods, leading us to glavel. Glavel is a foam glass gravel material manufactured right here in Essex, VT and is an excellent subslab insulator. It allowed us to replace rigid foam board insulation with compacted glavel. It's been very easy to work with and has a thermal insulation value of R1.7 per compacted inch. Swipe to see before our glavel pour and some close-ups of the material itself.

We made some time early this year to pursue our craft on a smaller level. We have two custom built desks for sale that feature authentic antique singer sewing machine cast iron bases. The treadle works too, which is fun to play with while you work. The desks are topped with repurposed cherry hardwood and finished with a soft natural beeswax finish. Clearing the way for a new build in Jericho, VT! Stepping onto a new site and visualizing how design will interface with reality is an exciting time for us. The journey with our client began months ago, but taking the first physical steps forward gives us a strong sense for the potential ahead of us.
