🏈 Football is back in Champaign!

The Illini kick off the 2026 season tonight under the lights at Gies Memorial Stadium.

There’s just something about a home game that brings Champaign-Urbana to life. Good luck to the Illini as they start a new season!

August was a busy one at ECI!

🏗️ Work continued on the new Central Illinois Credit Union project in Mahomet.

🏊 We installed new lockers in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms at Sholem Aquatic Center for the Champaign Park District.

🍦 We installed a new drive-thru sign at the iconic Jarling’s Custard Cup.

🏦 Longview Bank officially opened its doors in Savoy after we completed the building’s transformation earlier this summer.

🛠️ When a car crashed into 83 Vietnamese Cuisine, our team stepped in to help with cleanup and built a temporary wall so the damaged area could be secured.

🌳 We also wrapped up our Busey Woods project for the Urbana Park District, helping create part of the new walking trail with stream crossings, steps and railings.

From ground-up construction and renovations to smaller projects and unexpected calls for help, August was a great example of just how different one day can look from the next at ECI.

That’s a wrap on August. On to September!

Wrapping up at Busey Woods today! 🌳

ECI is finishing up the new trail improvements, including stream crossings, steps and railings built with locally milled black locust.

Busey Woods has an interesting history—the property served several purposes over the years before becoming the natural area the community knows today. We’re glad to have a small part in its next chapter.

And our jobsite helpers have been keeping a close eye on the progress. 🦌 We’re not sure how much actual work they’ve done, but their supervision has been excellent!

Back-to-school season has us thinking about what comes next.

When you think of a career in construction, what comes to mind?

Construction takes talented craftspeople who know how to turn plans into something real. Their skill, precision and experience show up in everything from site work and framing to the smallest details of a finished project.

And it takes a whole team — operators, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, project managers, superintendents, estimators, safety professionals, accountants, engineers, architects and many more.

Some careers start with an apprenticeship. Some with college. Some are learned in the field. There’s no single path into this industry.

There’s more than one way to build a career — and a lot of talent behind every project.

The severe storms and flooding we’ve seen across Central Illinois this week are a reminder of just how important infrastructure is to our communities.

Storm sewers. Culverts. Detention areas. Drainage systems. Roads. Bridges.

Most days, we drive over them, past them and around them without giving them much thought. But when heavy rain comes down faster than systems can move it away, we see just how much work that infrastructure is doing — and what happens when it reaches its limits.

Good infrastructure isn’t always something you notice.

Until you really need it.

Stay safe, Central Illinois. And please — never drive through a flooded roadway.

Making way for what’s next. 🚧

Before you can build something new, sometimes you have to start by clearing what’s already there.

For our Central Illinois Credit Union project, that meant trees and vegetation, outbuildings, and an existing house all had to come down and be hauled away.

It’s a pretty incredible transformation—and just the beginning of a new project we’re excited to share!

We're making progress!

The trail steps are in and one of the stream crossings is almost complete. It’s exciting to see this project starting to take shape — and we really like how the live-edge black locust looks out here in the woods.

One building. Two chapters.

When ECI completed this ground-up building, it opened as Ginger Ale's—a vibrant, eye-catching drive-thru beverage shop. Today, that same building has a new life as Longview Bank.

While the exterior has changed dramatically, the quality of the original construction remains. That's one of the advantages of thoughtful commercial construction—buildings can adapt as businesses and communities evolve.

We're proud to have been part of both chapters of this building's story.

🌳 We are SO excited about this project!

The Urbana Park District recently harvested black locust trees and had the lumber milled for a very special purpose.

Later this August, ECI Construction Services will use this locally milled black locust wood to help create part of a new walking trail through Busey Woods, including two stream crossings and a set of trail steps with railings.

We recently had the opportunity to see the beautiful lumber and walk the future trail with the Urbana Park District team.

Black locust is one of the most naturally rot-resistant hardwoods in North America, making it an ideal choice for bridges, steps, and other outdoor structures. Its natural durability allows it to withstand the elements for decades without the need for chemical treatment.

We're honored to be part of a project that will help visitors safely explore and enjoy one of our community's favorite natural spaces for years to come.
