A new project is getting underway at the Virginia Zoo— the Asia Trail expansion!

This project will feature elevated walkways and classroom tree houses overlooking a brand-new 5-acre exhibit, along with associated buildings and infrastructure. The new trail will also run along the Zoo’s train route, creating an exciting new experience for visitors.

This project is part of the Virginia Zoo’s plans to help celebrate its 125th anniversary and represents another exciting addition to this Hampton Roads landmark.

We’re proud to be part of what’s next for the Virginia Zoo and look forward to seeing this project take shape!

There are countless stories of courage and sacrifice that emerged from the tragedy of 9/11. Few, however, capture the very best of the human spirit like the story of Welles Crowther.

His selflessness, courage, and ultimate sacrifice remind us that even in the darkest moments, there is extraordinary goodness in people willing to put the lives of others before their own.

On September 11, 2001, Welles Crowther was working on the 104th floor of the South Tower when the building was struck. As chaos and smoke filled the tower, Welles began helping others find their way to safety. Witnesses remembered a young man calmly guiding people through the darkness — recognizable by the red bandana he wore over his face.

He helped save countless lives that morning.

Welles ultimately went back into the burning tower to help others and did not make it out. His courage, selflessness, and willingness to put the lives of strangers ahead of his own have become one of the most powerful stories of September 11th.

25 years later, we remember Welles Crowther — the Man in the Red Bandana — and the thousands of ordinary people who showed extraordinary courage that day.

Old Dominion University unveiled a memorial honoring Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, the Army ROTC instructor who lost his life protecting his students during class on March 12, 2026.

E.T. Gresham is proud to be a partner, and neighbor, of Old Dominion University, and we were honored to play a small part in remembering and honoring a truly selfless man. Lt. Col. Shah’s courage, sacrifice, and commitment to his students will not be forgotten.

We are excited to be working with Hanbury on this incredible project in downtown Norfolk!

The new Jean MacArthur Research Center (29,800 sf) will be a world-class facility dedicated to protecting and preserving General Douglas MacArthur’s personal papers, artifacts, and historic documents. Beyond preservation, the Center will expand educational access, provide new classroom and conference spaces, and create opportunities for future generations to engage with this important part of our history.

E.T. Gresham is proud to be part of bringing this remarkable project to life in Norfolk!

The MacArthur Memorial is breaking ground on the expansion and renovation of the Jean MacArthur Research and Educational Center in Norfolk, Virginia. Designed by Hanbury, the approximately 29,800-square-foot project combines the renovation of the existing research center with 20,000 square feet of n...

What an incredible transformation at the Historical Village at the Dismal Swamp!

Last Thursday, the City of Chesapeake celebrated the official opening of the Village with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. E.T. Gresham was proud to serve as the general contractor for the construction of the new Visitor Center and surrounding site improvements.

The beautiful new facility features exhibits exploring the rich history of the Great Dismal Swamp, including its Indigenous people, Maroon communities, connection to the Underground Railroad, and important role in local commerce.

From the new Visitor Center and exhibit spaces to the walkways, landscaping, and welcoming outdoor areas, it is exciting to see the entire site come together. We are proud of our team and everyone who helped create a place where the history of the Great Dismal Swamp can be shared for generations to come.

Congratulations to the City of Chesapeake on the opening of this remarkable new community destination!
