Lawn companies are my #1 destroyers fallowed by Snow removal companies, landscapers, septic system companies, other contractors doing something.
In Anchorage there is so much clay in areas, frost heaves push heads up, but don't retract. Then lawn crews come do thier spring cleaning and thatch or aeration riping off the bumpers on top, or completely destroying them. Then they put fertilizer down on cold ground, winter killed grass, snow mold, knowing it's a waste, until the lawn wakes up and ground temps warm up enough for the grass roots to except the nutrients. Most of it runs off thus wasting your money. When people
tell me thier lawn is dry in the spring, I laugh, because the ground is still frozen especially on the northern side of things. Anchorage water and wells are cold. So cold water on cold ground not prime for growth in May. Read the labels on the fertilizer!
I have been trying to encourage my customers to embrace smart irrigation practices.
In the next 2 years, any clients that can't upgrade their controllers to wifi ( https://www.hydrawise.com/ ) water access in crawlspace, ( https://www.woodfordmfg.com/woodford/Wall_Faucet_Pages/Model-32.html ) could possibly be discontinue services.
Why? I am getting older, moving slower, being seasonal and retaining employees for more than a couple of seasons. Training them is time consuming and costly.
May-mid July, I average 80-100 hours pre week on sprinklers. Not much time for family and personal needs.
If you know any locking to get into the sprinkler business, I am open to a partner or a addition to your landscape or snow removal company. Send me message.
