On this All Hallows' Eve, an old oak chair sits beneath an old oak tree in a woods near the lake. Perhaps it is a resting place for any who use the oak as a gateway to cross the barrier between worlds. After all, oak trees have held symbolic meaning for generations, from ancient cultures to current ones. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend! 🌳🎃

In honor of National Cat Day, meet Nyx, our office cat! Between chair-stealing, lap-kneading, copier monitoring, and box-inspecting, she keeps us all in line, sharing her floof and kneading laps. If you're looking for an awesome feline for your life, check out in Victor. We found Nyx and a few others in their awesome shelter.

May this Halloween be spent in whatever way pleases you the most! (If you're like our office cats, we imagine there will be plenty of napping in cozy spots.) 🌳

Aerial Rescue training is part of our safety training program, and a requirement of EHAP (electrical hazard awareness program) for tree care workers. Each member of the crew had a turn as rescuer and as injured climber. We respect the dangers of our profession and put safety first. 🌳

For the love of oak trees, pruning is best done when temperatures are steadily colder, per the NYS DEC (so generally Oct/Nov thru Feb/Mar). 🌳 Why? To help prevent the spread of Oak Wilt, a deadly oak tree disease that has been found in the Finger Lakes and Rochester regions. We're busy preparing trees and landscapes for Winter with Fall PHC (Plant Health Care) treatments. A healthy soil boost and other applications are being administered in the skillful hands of technician Suzie in our dutiful F250.

Learn more about PHC and our small batch brewed soil amendment, CompostTea, on our website. https://www.arborcaretreemanagement.com/planthealthcare/phc

In-canopy inspection of trees can reveal worrisome issues, like these decay pockets developed after storm damage or from old (and inappropriate) pruning cuts. A hand saw offers a quick way to probe and determine just how far the decay has progressed down a limb or trunk. At times the inspection will change a tree care project from simple health pruning, to a recommendation for removal. 🌳

We found Ian and Jon installing a static supplemental support system using extra high strength (EHS) steel cable in a locust tree. While Ian feeds his end of the cable, Jon proves that work can happen from anywhere thanks to technology! 🌳

[Installed between selected stems or leaders using appropriately sized EHS cable, placement of cable(s) is determined by the arborist based on tree structure and load distribution following ANSI A300 standards. Cabling, often combined with bracing lower in the tree, can help preserve a tree and protect people and property.]

Summer views over Canandaigua Lake from the crew! Ian told us they were even better from the tree, as he took a moment to pose while rigging out the canopy of this tall cottonwood. 🌳
