One of the challenges on this project was finding a color that would help blend these two wood species together. The boards running horizontally are Ipe, and the boards running vertically are Brazilian Cherry.

These floors used to be prefinished. While most prefinished hardwood floors can be refinished, they require extra steps to remove the aluminum oxide finish. In most cases, we start with diamond segments on a planetary machine and diamond discs on the edger. The diamonds don’t dull like traditional abrasives and are able to effectively remove the coating. Once that’s complete, we can begin our normal sanding process and bring the wood back to life.
