*Working Fire* Late yesterday afternoon a little before 1600 hours, dispatch received a call of a garage fire on the 8100 block of Colerain Ct. Engine 18 was first arriving at a 2-story residence with smoke and flames showing and began fire attack. Second in Engine 4 established water supply, Ladders 4 and 15 completed searches, and vertical vent was completed by L15 and R16 as well. The gas-fed fire eventually made its way into the attack causing crews to go defensive before reentering the structure to get a full knock on the fire. Searches turned up negative and the fire was marked under control with no injuries. The Local 548 is proud to serve the citizens of Raleigh.

Durham lit it red last night in honor of FF Andrew Brokes. More than 3,000 brothers and sisters from across the country came to the Bull City to pay their final respects. Local 548 and CPFF Local 4103 assisted with shuttle service.
There truly aren’t sufficient words to describe the positive support we witnessed from Durham Mayor Leo Williams and Durham Fire Chief Zoldos to their fire service family.

Local 548 stands in solidarity with the Durham Fire Department and the surrounding cities and towns stepping up to provide coverage as we honor the life of Firefighter Andrew Brokes, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Rest easy, Brother. We have it from here.

This week, we saw a positive step forward for public employees and organized labor right here in Wake County.

The Wake County Board of Education recognized the importance of giving public employees and their unions a voice and meaningful access to the people they represent.

When employees have the opportunity to organize, communicate, and stand together, the entire workforce is stronger.

Local 548 is encouraged to see elected leaders in our own county recognizing the value of organized labor and the important role unions play in representing public employees. We hope to see more of this moving forward.
