Our Story

Founded in 1924, Baptist Health has brought advanced medical technology, modern facilities, and many of the region's most prominent physicians and medical professionals to the commonwealth and surrounding communities for nearly a century. Headquartered in Louisville, the Baptist Health family has grown to include nine hospitals, with more than 2,700 beds, located in Corbin, La Grange, Lexington, Louisville, Madisonville, Paducah, Richmond, Kentucky; in New Albany, Indiana; and our latest addition, Baptist Health Hardin, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

Our full-spectrum health system includes a network of more than 3,000 employed and affiliated physicians and advanced practice clinicians providing healthcare in more than 300 locations. In addition to inpatient hospital care, we have outpatient diagnostic and surgery centers; physician practices; Urgent Care, Occupational Medicine and Physical Therapy clinics; Home Care; wellness centers; and digital health services, including Baptist Health Virtual Care.

Within our service areas, Baptist Health ranks No. 1 in number of births, hospital admissions, emergency visits, cancer patients, and open heart surgeries.

Baptist Health is the only health system in the U.S. to have all of its hospitals recognized by the American Nursing Credentialing Center with either a Magnet® or Pathway to Excellence® designation for nursing excellence.
