In 1982, J. Marvin Comer started this company with two trucks, a loader, and a dozer. He'd spent years working for other contractors and saw a better way to do it.

Over 40 years later, that "better way" is still how we operate. Same values, same work ethic, same name on the truck door.

Some of our best work happens right in the middle of town. Our crews keep projects like this moving safely, with lane control and traffic management so the work gets done without slowing down the neighborhood around it.

Comer Construction was proud to take part in this year's National Night Out at the Harford County Farm Fairgrounds, joining thousands of community members, first responders, local organizations, and businesses for a night dedicated to building safer, stronger neighborhoods.

We were honored to welcome Sheriff Jeff Gahler from the Harford County Sheriff's Office and countless families who stopped by our booth β€” and with your support, we set a new record giving away hundreds of hats, tons of T-shirts, safety vests for the kids, and more than 1,200 FREE snow cones! 🍧

A huge thank you to the Harford County Sheriff's Office, the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who made this year's event such a success. See all our favorite moments from the night here: https://www.comerconstruction.com/community-involvement/national-night-out-2026/

Our Safety Solutions Team is a rotating group of employees from across the company who meet regularly to talk honestly about workplace safety β€” what's working, what isn't, and what needs to change.

What makes it particularly special is that titles and rank get left at the door. Whether you've been here twenty years or twenty days, every voice carries equal weight.

This team helps shape our safety policies, works through real hazards employees are seeing on job sites, and brings ideas straight to leadership.

It matters because safety isn't something that can just be handed down from the top. The people running equipment, working in trenches, and managing traffic control every day are the ones who know best what's actually happening out there. Giving them a real voice in how we build our safety program is how that knowledge turns into action and how we make sure every person on our team goes home safe.

Congratulations to Susie Comer on being named to The Daily Record 's MD500!

The MD500 recognizes Maryland's most influential leaders across business, law, and industry. Susie has been a driving force at Comer Construction since her father, J. Marvin Comer, started the company in 1982, and she's led its estimating, project management, and customer relations divisions for decades. Under her leadership, Comer Construction has built a reputation for quality work at a fair price.

She's also given her time to organizations across Harford County and the region, including the Harford County Public Works Advisory Board and the Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation board.

Congratulations, Susie! We're proud to have you leading our team.
