Grow Together

Grow Together Instead of growing food all by myself, I want to learn and grow alongside others--in a community where we all plant and 'Grow Together'!

You don’t need a big yard to grow food 🪣 A few bucket gardening tips I’ve learned:
🕳️ Drainage holes are a must, or roots can rot fast
🌱 Use potting mix, not heavy garden soil
🍅 Tomatoes need support early before the plant gets too heavy
🥒 Cucumbers can grow in buckets too, but they’ll need a small trellis
💧 Buckets dry out faster than raised beds, so check moisture often
☀️ Place them where they get plenty of sun, especially for fruiting veggies
It’s a simple setup, but it can grow a surprising amount with the right care.

Scrap regrowing is such a fun kitchen project 🌱 A few tips I’ve learned:
🧅 Green onions, leeks, and lemongrass are some of the easiest
🥬 Romaine, cabbage, celery, and bok choy can push out fresh leaves
🥕 Carrot and beet tops regrow greens, not new roots
💧 Change the water often so it doesn’t get slimy
☀️ Give them bright light, but avoid hot direct sun on the jar
🪴 Move stronger starts into soil if you want them to last longer
I treat these as bonus greens, but it’s a great beginner-friendly way to reuse scraps.

Yesterday, I sat with local Gem, Master Gardener Tori Exum Johnson to talk tomatoes! She talked us through some of the best ways to get them started.

Instead of gardening alone, let's Grow Together! 1. Come to the CUPHD, 2. Pick up a mature tomato start 3. Plant it on your balcony, patio or plot of land from now until June 20th. Post questions here and some Master Gardener friends can answer. Let's grow our own food together! Big thanks to Sola Gratia Farm for the tomato donation and Give Back Garden for the support!!

I've got lots of help getting the plants ready to be distributed tomorrow :)! Big thanks to Sola Gratia Farm for the don...

I've got lots of help getting the plants ready to be distributed tomorrow :)! Big thanks to Sola Gratia Farm for the donation of tomato starts that we can give for our program.

Instead of planting alone, let's do it together and bring in experts to help talk us through it all. Ask any questions right here. Post pictures of your growing journey.
