I let Mother Nature do about 80% of the watering for these results!

For my own trial and error, I drove a riding lawn mower over this area during week 2 every few days, making sharp turns to see if I could disturb the hydroseed or stunt the growth. We definitely do not recommend treating a newly seeded lawn this way.

Despite the lack of attention this area received, it still turned out great!
Fall is right around the corner, and we book FAST. Growing grass is a process, and getting started early gives you the best chance for success.

New grass staling out? Not filling in?
This year has been a struggle for grass growth. We went from freezing nights to blistering heat in a matter of weeks, which is tough on cool-season grasses.
If your newly seeded lawn looks like it's stalled out, growing slowly, or not filling in as nicely as you'd hoped, watch this quick video.
Growing grass is a long-term project—especially in a year like this. Think of it like a carrot: just because you can't see much happening above ground doesn't mean there isn't a lot going on below the surface. Right now, much of the plant's energy is focused on developing a healthy root system.
Stay patient, keep up with watering, and give it time. The lawns with strong roots today will be the ones that thrive later.

New service? Egress window?
While this isn’t a service we currently provide commercially, this is a personal project we’re working on that’s still in progress.

We partnered with Dietch Construction to remove an old basement window and install a large egress window to add a legal basement bedroom along with a safe emergency exit in the event of a fire.

One thing we wanted to do differently was recess the window back into the foundation wall to create an overhang above the window. This helps reduce the chance of water intrusion — something we’ve heard can be a common issue with some egress window installs.

With Dietch Construction’s extensive home construction knowledge and our background in light excavation, we feel this could become a very solid option for homeowners looking to upgrade their basement space safely and correctly.

If there’s enough interest in this type of work, we’d definitely consider adding it to our arsenal of services. We’d love to chat!

4 weeks ago we drill seeded and hydroseeded this property.

We recently came back out to hydroseed some missed spots from the drill seeder due to the complex layout of the area. We wanted to avoid overseeding the sections that already had good coverage.

Overall, we’re seeing solid growth so far considering the challenging weather conditions we’ve had this season.

Right now the grass is still very young and immature, so it won’t look super thick yet. As it continues to establish and mature, it will fill in and look much fuller over time.

This is all part of the process — patience pays off with new lawns!

“Do I have time to hydroseed this year?”
“Why is my grass growing so slow?”

This year has been unique and challenging to say the least.

Cool season grasses germinate best when SOIL temperatures are consistently around 60–85°. I check the soil temps daily, and this year we’ve had less than a week consistently in that range.

Add in the heavy rains, colder nights, and cooler daytime temps, and new grass seed has been much slower to germinate and establish.

Normally we like to see germination in 3–7 days and first mowing around 4 weeks. This year, those timelines are being pushed back due to weather conditions completely out of our control.

Final thought:
Hydroseeding is still extremely effective — and we’ve proven that across multiple properties in previous season. Mother Nature is just slowing the process down this year.

Trust the process. It’s a marathon, not a race.

And honestly, by the end of the season, your hydroseeded lawn will likely have a stronger root structure than sod.
