Bathroom number three in the books for this Clarkston house. Same marble in all three bathrooms and same slate floor as one on the others helps keep continuity throughout the house. It’s a basement bathroom this time, which might help some of you accept the urinal. Adjacent to the bathroom is the laundry room which was also getting renovated, so the slate floor continued into that room as well.

It’s not too often I talk people out of tiling. But this one I did. She thought she wanted floor to ceiling tile everywhere. I did talk her into have some exposed wall space in the end 😆
I don’t think she regrets that decision, other than having to paint a little after I was done.
It was definitely time for an update though!

I love a fun floor. Adding this pattern tile to the floor makes doing the laundry a little less mundane 😁

Many customers worry about resale value when renovating a bathroom. Sometimes your quality of life needs to come first. As people are aging, needs change, and quality of life supersedes resale value in my opinion. Don’t worry about having a tub in the house if a shower will better suit you! Tear that tub out, and put a shower in! Talk about your future expected needs with the installer to make sure your renovation will work for you as you continue to age. I have been doing many tub to shower conversions lately. People are choosing to stay in their homes longer for various reasons. Choosing the right installer and discussing appropriate materials is very important for getting the best outcome and longevity for your renovated bathroom.

The traverse city bathroom project turned out beautifully! Because they had purchased more tile than needed and long before I could even start, they would have been stuck with many extra boxes of tile. So instead, I put those tiles behind the vanity and tiled the whole wall. It really pulls the whole room together! The owner did such a fantastic job picking out all the pieces. Unfortunately her mirrors ended up too big, so she needed to find skinnier ones.
She was beyond thrilled with how the veins and colors of the tiles lined up. Choosing a person with experience matters in the end!
