In 2022, more than 40% of Construction and Extraction Services fatalities were from falls, slips, and trips. Advanced Scaffolding recently performed an inspection of our P-Series hydromobile lift. This lift allows our crews to work at maximum heights inside tanks safely giving them a protected work space when above ground. Working from heights is a necessary part of our work, so ensuring our equipment is in good running order is #1 priority. Thanks to Advanced for coming down to perform this inspection and help ensure our teams go home each day.

“Every Memorial Day at Arlington National Cemetery, soldiers from the 3rd US. Infantry Brigade place small American flags at the headstones of more than 300,000 graves. The headstones bear the names of people of every ethnic origin.
They mark the final resting places of professional soldiers and conscripts of rich and poor, Christian, Jew and Muslim, believer and non-believer, descendants of Mayflower pilgrims and immigrants who had barely arrived in the country before they took up arms to defend her. Dark-skinned and white, city dwellers and people from small towns and farms, teachers and machinists, businessmen and day laborers, poets and presidents, people of impeccable character rest here, scoundrels do too. Most were brave, some may not have been.
Some of the dead were celebrated successes in their lifetimes and some obscure failures. Many here perished in war and never had the opportunity to pursue peaceful ambitions. Others died in ripe old age, rich in blessings.
Some sacrificed willingly, others resentfully, but all of them sacrificed, and families from every place in America have wept at a graveside here.”

Last week marked significant progress on two major projects as we diligently executed our plans.

Firstly, GPS successfully installed the final pump station for Dry Prairie Rural Water Authority, a crucial step in supplying fill water to the first of two reservoirs along the transmission corridor. Simultaneously, we received positive bacteria test results for the first reservoir while preparing the second for filling and hydro testing. This milestone marks significant progress towards project completion, much to the satisfaction of the Owner.

In Colorado, GPS accomplished the first of four footing placements for a substantial 193’ diameter reservoir. Despite utilizing a 65-meter pump truck, we encountered challenges reaching the entire footing radius, necessitating an additional 40’ of discharge hose for a 50’ wall section. Notably, this pump boasts the state's longest reach, capable of servicing 6-story buildings with an impressive 90,000lb load on each front outrigger. Such feats require meticulous planning, including the deployment of a pup truck carrying steel plates for each outrigger and securing travel permits for road transport.

Remember, attention to detail in both small and large tasks is paramount for success!

Great Plains Structures is proud to work for communities across the Midwest and provide water storage solutions that last for generations. Small communities like Gove, KS are the lifeblood of the American Midwest. The pictured tank has served Gove for 44 years!

The GPS service crew was dispatched to inspect and rehabilitate this 44 year old Aquastore tank. The crew utilized our P-Series lift that allows us to safely scale the entire vertical column of the tank and provide a work platform with no leading edge risks. The crew works from the bottom-to-top inspecting every seam, bolt, and edge. Corrosion is removed and substrate prepared for new sealant. Once topped out, the roofline and accessories are inspected. Then the crew descends and applies new sealant to all edges and exposed surfaces. The interior lining of the tank is ready for another 20-30 years of service.

When choosing assets for your community, the cost of capital, cost of construction and design, and life-cycle all become variables in that decision. Other manufacturers make claims about their coating systems and how THEY are the best. Whether claims of maintenance free life-cycle, or new paint technologies, most claims aren’t backed up by performance. CST Industries and the Aquastore don’t need to make BIG claims about how great the Aquastore coating system is; photos like these tell the story. The truth is, any coating system has limitations and not all epoxy, concrete, nor glass are created equal. When it comes to water and wastewater storage, the Aquastore provides Owners and Engineers with a track record of performance, durability, and service. TRUTH matters and the reality is, the Aquastore’s glass-fused-to-steel coating system has provided countless communities with performance that matches their expectations.
